Under the old codex I had to purchase either a CCS, Primaris Psyker or Lord Comissar before I could get my hands on a LR for fulfilling the mandatory HQ choice. This means a unit that I really didnt have much use for, effectively a 70+ point HQ tax (or 50 if I fielded a barebones CCS).

Now being able to field a LR with tank commander as allied HQ with added bonus means I can ally in upto 6 Leman Russes (1 + 2 as HQ, and a squadron of 3 as HS), something unthinkable in the previous codex.

Happytimes for non IG players looking for IG allies

I love it.

For someone who used IGs as allies, leverage CCS orders by putting them in a cheap chimera and using 4 flamers, I'm a bit miffed.

My custom Elysian Marbo model is also a bit miffed.

I would also sometimes dump that 70pt CCS out of a Vendetta for a nice "BBQ surprise" for my opponents. A CCS had a lot of leverage because of it's 4 special weapons load out and a guy to tank wounds up front.
