Hey, I am somewhat new to Daemons. I only play 40k, so it is my impression that you are supposed to use rounded bases for everything, and not square. However, when I bought some flesh hounds I noticed that they only have rectangular bases. Do I have to find rounded bases for them to play them in 40k? Am I going to get some sort of rules lawyer objection if I take flesh hounds on square bases to a tournament?

Nope, that is the base they are provided with, that is the base they should be played on, using anything else may result in people rules lawyering you

Try sending an email to GW about how your goods didn't come with proper oval bases. They should send you bike bases. Be vague about the models purchased, just make sure they understand that you need the bike bases. Should work out well in your favor.

The worst part about 40k is that my models don't hug me back.

Except until recently there was no such thing as a 'bike base'. If he has an older box of Flesh Hounds then it would only have the rectangular cavalry bases.

Ghaz has it.
Up until recent times, they only ever had the cavalry bases.
Its only a more recent change to add in the bike bases for them.

Just throw GW an email saying you paid for a unit of flesh hounds but it came with no bases for use in 40k.
I had this with 2 units of screamers only coming with the flying bases and no square ones for fantasy.

My third edition hounds (the buck-toothed ones) came with 40mm round bases, so that's what I use. For consistency, I have mounted all of my third-party Flesh Hound models (none of which came with bases) on 40mm round bases as well. So far, have had zero complaints about this.

Of course, GW would not be obliged to provide you with the extra bases as the models are not advertised as coming with them.

Certainly can't hurt to ask politely, though. Those bases must cost GW next to nothing, and their customer service tends to be pretty good with things like this.

They did come with bases for 40k, any base that a model is supplied with is legal for 40k.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

They did come with bases for 40K, though.

It's only comparatively recently that 40K has had rounded bases for beasts and cavalry. And not really that many years ago that monstrous creatures and walkers were all on square bases.

There is nothing in the 40K rules that specifically requires round bases.

So do Flesh Hounds now currently come with rounded biker bases as well? They're still advertised as coming with horse bases.

I'm currently building a set of hounds and I'm unsure which bases to go for. I thought perhaps the biker ones seemed a little too long for the models.
