hi gang,

has anyone seen the sprues of the new chaos space marine box (the one with the crimson slaughter box art) in person? I know it's the same content, but are the mold lines just as bad as they are in the old box or have they been cleaned up? trying to figure out if it's worth differentiating between the old and new boxes when I get around to buying my next CSM squad.

thanks!

In my experience, the majority of plastic kits from GW have pretty significant mold lines. I wouldn't know from experience, but I would say it's safe to assume the mold lines haven't improved very much since they use the same molds.

They're the same models so the quality will be the same.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

The newer plastic model kits have gotten much better. The mold lines aren't nearly so bad and they are often better place to facilitate their removal compared to the older kits.

I have 3 boxes of the old style box design from over the last 4 months or so and I didn't think they had particularly bad mold lines.

I think it's the luck of the dice really mate, I've had 2 boxes of models of the same unit one with awful lines and bits hanging of and the other needing very little in the way of cleaning up!

There's no reason why new box art should have any influence on the molds or vice versa.

I'm not an expert, but as far as I know the molds wear down over time which results in nastier lines. Assuming GW have more than one mold casting a specific frame at the same time, mold lines could be different from one set to the next.

Other variables during the actual casting process could also influence the result.

Are they on new sprues or something? I don't see why they would be. If they are, then the answer is likely yes. If they're just putting the same sprues into a new box, then no.

THEY ARE THE SAME MODELS.
It's just the box art that's changed.
