Are these the first models you've painted? Because if that's so, they're quite impressive. Well-done overall, though some of them could use some more contrast with the highlighting.

I did a test batch of 5 mini's in October and then the lone cultist seen at the end of the vid. Never touched a brush to a mini otherwise. I'm recording my overall journey in the blog section. I'd say I learned a lot from these forums in a short amount of time. As for highlights, it's probably my most challenging "basic" technique I've yet to figure out. My brush control is improving but still fairly shaky and I'm still trying to learn the right balance on thinning and brush loading so I can get a nice clean and thin line for edge highlights. I did pick up some practice of glaze blending on the Librarian. I still have a long way to go.
I appreciate the feedback!

Do you have experience in some field of art?

Nope.
I have noticed that I pick most things up quickly though. The proverbial "jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none" skill set. A touch of self-diagnosed OCD also means I don't show off anything until I'm sure I can't get any better with my current level.
I'm very happy that the individuals in the painting and modeling forums are liberal in their praises and dish out critiques properly and with a light hand.

Really awesome work!
The music choice at the beginning was perfect! That dubstep emo music, cause you know, dark angels are the emo chapter of the astartes.

I tried the stencil on my Razorback to get my wings on the side. Yours are much cleaner than mine. How did you get them done like that?? That's not free hand. lots of tape?

I used a sharp pencil and stencil to get the outline. The paint is all freehand after that. I put the white (light ghost grey) down in 3-4 layers then go in with black and egde the white to make them straight and sharp. Then some base coat green over the black making sure to leave a thin black outline.
Took me about 4 hours on the top and 4 hours for the sides (2 hours each side).

Jebus, these are fantastic! It's always nice to see a DA player, and your models are fantastic!
Do you know if you're going to expand this force, Raven/Death wing units are a joy to paint, in their own way.

Thank you, sir.
Our group is already planning to expand to 750 points and mine will definitely have a 5-man DW squad. I put my paints for them on order yesterday.
djphranq,
You really got us hooked on the plastic crack. Job well done!

I can see why you're proud. You've done everything right, and now there's nothing left to stop you from enjoying as many 500pt. games as you can play.

Awesome looking army so far, I think an alternative model for the second Sgt (or puttingh a helmet on or something) would stop the squads being too identica. but i can't fault the painting!

From what I can see, this looks really good!
Unfortunately, I cannot view videos from my computer. I addition, I think most Dakka users prefer pics to videos. Not necessary, obviously, but it might get you more exposure, as well as more comments!

I'm jealous of your Unforgiven. They certainly do justice to the sons of the Lion. Truly fantastic for your first attempt.
Given your success with Tactical squads the the sheer WEIGHT of detailing to that Librarian....please, for the love of our glorious Father, The Lion of Caliban, Lord of the First Legion....paint up some deathwing....

For the Lion and Terra!
Because nothing in the galaxy is black and white, Mankind views the Space Marines as a last resort. The last line. When all else fails. They take up the burden. The noble defenders of Mankind. The last hope.

you have to have some history in art, even if it isnt model painting specifically. For basically your first paintjobs, thats exceedingly well done. Better than most of my crap and ive been painting for awhile now. Only reason i dont feel sad about my work compared to yours is mine is still better than EVERYONE i ever play against rofl which is all that matters in the end

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone! Paints for the DV DW squad arrived yesterday.
That is a great poll, sir! In fact I think the rules for the forum even state each thread should have at least 1 picture. At the risk of being redundant with my blog thread I shall edit the OP (when I'm on a real PC vs. my tablet I am using now) so it's in line with the forum guidelines and give the members the choice of content medium they deserve.
@stargasm,
Good idea. I do have a box of sternguard vets that could have either bits or minis repurposed in the near future for just such a task.
