Hello all.

So I got a fixer upper from a fellow dakkanite a while back. It's one of the old leman russ models minus the turret.

Obviously the new turrets don't fit as the hole is now smaller, pegs in a different place, etc.

Any advice on how I could go about getting another one, or maybe a conversion idea to make one of the new ones fit?

The leman russ accessory sprue on GW's website appears to only have half the turret, so that won't work...

Trying to ebay "oop leman russ turret" gets me no where...

Any advice would be appreciated.

you could try forgeworld turrets.

you automatically lose points for using the trite gamer-isms: balanced, meta, Mat Ward, etc.

Oh do those Mars/Ryza pattern turrets fit?

Actually now that I look at the tank, the hole is broken to be even bigger and doesn't have the slots that the tabs go in before turning. Ugh. Maybe I'll just GLUE one into place. No gaming reason for the turrets to be able to turn, right?

Depends. There are occasions when you want the Russ's frontal armour to be facing one direction while the turret is facing a different direction, but not that often. It could be an issue if you play 'serious' (tournament etc) games, but casual opponents are unlikely to care.

If this was me, I'd build a replacement turret (and maybe turret ring) and battlecannon from plasticard (and spare IG bits), and either disguise it with camo netting or justify the nonstandard shape as an emergency field repair by IG engineers.

I'm new to actually playing 40k, what do you turn the turret for? If you remain stationary but want to rotate or something?

The turret rests on it just fine I suppose I could just do that.

Replace the gimbal ring on the top of the tank with a sheet of plasticard and cut the correct hole for a new turret. Another option would be to add the plasticard as above and do the same to the bottom of a new turret and then drill a hole in one and add an appropriate sized pin (brass rod for small, styrene tubing for larger) to essentially remake the pivot.

What I would do is cut a length of sprue to bridge the hole from the interior of the tank. Glue a rare earth magnet on it, then get a new turret fit a piece of sprue in a similar fashion magnetise et voilĂ ... One working turret which can turn and safely be removed for transporting capabilities

The FW alternate turrets come with an adapter bit so that it fits the hole on both the new and old LRBT kits. Put the conversion bit in the hole on your current tank and it will fit the new turret peg, and you get a nice looking turret as a bonus.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If you download any of Eli patoroch's template sets it's extremely easy to scratchbuild a turret from basically any tank to go on it. I despise the old russ turret personally.

GW sells an old Russ sprue with most of the turret -you just need to mock up a base plate:
