That would sort of depend on whether you want to play 6th edition, or if you're happy to continue playing 4th ed.

If the latter, there is no real point in buying the new books.

I'd wait we have rumours of 7th coming soon possibly in June, you could look in eBay for the mini rule book and if it's cheap pick one up but don't buy the full sized one for retail price.

There are a lot of rumours for 7th ed in May-June. The new Ork dex will probably be the first dex in 7th ed. I'd wait another 1-2 months to see what will happen before buying a very expensive book just to get it invalidated a week later..

Dont new editions usually release in July? If so the Ork codex would still fall under 6th edition

If you want to play 6thed I'd say get one of the mini-rulebooks off ebay. They cost less and have all the rules; the only thing you mis out on is the fluff content.

That way you can play the game and if new rules come out you've not shelled out a huge amount on a heavy paperweight (unless you really want the fluff content of course)

Yeah but most of the time the last codex written in an edition is written with the next one in mind.

Well, yes. You need the rulebook to play.

Do you and whoever you game with want to play 6th edition? The codex is not not going to be backwards compatible across 2 editions.

And this is why we have GW shady work practices. I don't know how any GW employee can sleep at nite and suggest to this fine fellow that Yes spend the $100+ for the rule book when they know it will be null and void in a few weeks time.

I guess this is why GW tried to not tell it's employees anything so they don't have to "lie" about knowing anything coming up in the future.

I say wait. Do you really need the 6th edition rules right now? Will you be playing games with them right now? If spending $50+ for rules book you need to know you might only have 2 months of using them.

Rumour is maybe June will see a new rule set. I never seen 40K come out for new rules in June. My guess could be August or September and then a new box set in September/October.

So it's up to you. Can you get a cheap copy now? Will it upset you if you get a copy now and a new copy comes out in the summer? What if a new copy doesn't come out in the summer, will the loss of not having a 6th edition copy really matter?

Eh Wizards of the Coast are happy to sell you cards with various rarities based upon them simply printing less of them and putting them in fewer numbers into the packs of cards they sell - and every year they make 2 blocks of those cards unsuitable for current play (though usable still in extended).

The thing is your rulebook still works after a new edition comes out - nothing forces you to take up playing the new edition unless everyone around you does.

I saw one sell a copy of the 5th ed box set literally days before 6th came out. They have to get rid of them somehow!

Yeah but most of the time the last codex written in an edition is written with the next one in mind.

That may or may not be true. I know we all assume it, but I don't think it's ever been confirmed.

What's wrong with that? Even under 6th the Assault on Black Reach set was a great way to get a lot of Ork models.

And the only way to get a non-FW, non-ebay Multimelta Dreadnought which, dropped in a pod, are ridiculously effective.

So it's ok someone buying a rule set, be it in a box set or not, become invalid because a week later a new rule set comes out?

Wow, surprise at some people. Some complain about GW but here we are they are supporting GW shaddy practice of selling a rule set knowing it will be invalid in a weeks time.

True colours come out now eh?

I am talking about selling a book, not getting minis.

The DV kit is still ridiculously detailed and pretty staggering amount of miniatures you get for the price, especially if you buy it in a discounted store.
