Alright so I had an idea for an RP, so without further ado here we go!
THE SETTING
Far on the Eastern Fringe, many worlds lay pristine and untouched by the eternal war in the universe. While it may seem rare to find such a place, often they are untouched for a reason... Recent intel reports the appearance of a new planet, perhaps concealed in some form of warp storm or Emperor knows what else. However, it matches data archived about a planet once lost millennia ago, that housed a potent artifact. The world's name is Santuar. While the artifact is undoubtedly worth having, the intel cannot even confirm whether it actuall exists or not, though the stone temple it is supposedly housed in is prominent enough that it can be easily seen from space. While battle rages on other fronts, only a few forces can be committed to the planet, to scout the area or perhaps even move to take the artifact before a full army can be mobilized.
But... you are not alone...
THE RULES
1. You're 'recon force' consists of 3 units pulled from whichever codex you'd like with a few exceptions. You cannot bring any HQ, Heavy Support, Vehicles or Monstrous Creatures. This is a recon force, not a full-blown army. Jetbikes/bikes are okay though, since they dont follow vehicle rules.
2. The force can consist of any combination of Elites, Troops, and Fast Attacks. No individual unit can be beyond 200 points (to prevent someone from maxing out a paladin squad or the like which is like 800+ points lol). Your 'commander' is a sergeant-type figure among your squads, but if you take an Elite unit, they MUST be from one of your Elites.
3. The skirmish around Santuar's temple will be kinda similar to a King of the Hill type of fight. Be 'king' (enter the temple and keep from being blown sky-high by any traps/other forces) for long enough and you might find the artifact - which will uncover an entirely new angle to the roleplay - which I will get to when we get to the artifact.
4. If your units are destroyed routed, go ahead and make a new one and re-enter the fray. Play an entirely new faction if you'd like!
5. On your entry post, put up your list of units inside OOC marks (( like this ))
6. As for the roleplaying, its all pretty much standard. Don't god-mod, don't miraculously survive every encounter (YOU HAVE 3 WHOLE UNITS TO SACRIFICE PROTECT YOU!) and ask permission first before taking control of someone else's stuff.
7. Last, but not least, Have fun!

You are aware pts etc are game mechanics, right? Ten tactical marines blow thirty Guardsmen out of the water lorewise, but in the game the Guardsmen cost more points.

Yes and I also realize there are fluffy guardsmen who are capable of fighting entire armies on their own practically *cough*Marbo*cough*
Again its just an arbitrary limit to prevent shenanigans like the peviously mentioned paladin spam, which is close to 1000 points on its own with all the bells and whistles.
This thread kinda angled itself to an OOC and my mobile spits heresy at me when I try to make new topics or edit my posts. I'll title this to OOC and make up an IC thread. In the meantime I suppose I could expand more on Santuar's terrain.
There are four main approaches to the temple from each cardinal direction. In the North the temple literally cuts into the side of a snowy mountain. There a couple of steep, switchback paths leading to the temple proper. To the West a thick forest has grown up around the temple's base, and continues on for many kilometers.
The eastern edge of the temple oversees vast, rolling plains of high grasses. While there isn't much in the way of protective cover, the grass does make it difficult for anything to be seen. The southern walls of the temple rest along the shoreline to the ocean. Not too far out are reefs, and appraching the temple is possible from this direction, regardless of the tides as the temple's staircases lead right down to the ground, even when the tide rolls in and covers parts of the stairs.
The top of the temple itself used to be home to people as scaling the stairs reveals weathered srone houses, aqueducts and memorials - though a central monolithicspire clearly marks the center of the temple, and also its main entrance to the interior.
If anything else needs explaining I'll do my best to do so

Making the IC thread here in a few moments!
10 Dire Avengers
-Exarch w/ Diresword & Shuriken Pistol, Battle Fortune, Shield of Grace
7 Fire Dragons
-Exarch w/ Fast Shot, Iron Resolve, Firepike
10 Howling Banshees
-Exarch w/ Executioner, Disarming Strike, Shield of Grace
"Commander" is Exarch Jainahre from among the Howling Banshees. A very devout follower of both Jain Zar's teachings and (by extension) Khaine - bordering on the line of fanatic. It's been close to a century since she's last set foot on her craftworld, but she is part of a corsair fleet guided by an Farseer who selected her to lead the recon of the planet, citing what he'd read in his seer stones.
