What does it mean?
Fliers have to enter via reserves, and usually this means from your own board edge in Zoom mode.
Does the deepstrike rule mean they can come on via deepstrike? If so, in hover mode, or still zooming mode?
I don't imagine it's just an out of date rule, as I'm pretty sure "Imperial Armour - Aeronautica" was released *after* 6th ed Warhammer 40K..... specifically to bring Forgeworld units into line with the new rules
I'm not sure what to make of this rule.

I asked Forgeworld for clarification on this as it seems to only be Forgeworld flyers that seem to retains this rule. Sadly without an FAQ this is essentially hearsay but for what it is worth they confirmed that for the Dreadclaw at least when it arrives from Deepstrike it counts as a Flyer in hover mode.

Last TO said deepstrike the unit 1st turn it comes on.
Since it counts as moving at cruising speed, the model can be either zooming or cruising and nothing restricts that choice as far as I can see.

liturgies, the problem with that is per the Deep Strike rules it does not count as moving Cruising Speed until the Shooting phase. For most vehicles it does not matter, for a non-hovering Flyer it does.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

How a Flying Monstrous Creature arrives from deep strike is irrelevant to how a Flyer comes in from deep strike, though if you want to avoid crash and burn....

Well Happy, at worst you can move flat out and get a coversave.
I don't know if there are any FW flyers that still have DS other than the dreadclaw but IMHO if they do then they should be able to DS and not crash as their rule doesn't work otherwise.

The main issue is that you did not move 18+". Meaning at the end of the Movement phase you would crash. In a friendly game, I'd have no issues with it. If asked to make a ruling at a tournament, DSing Flyers would have to arrive in Hover mode. If unable they cannot DS.

It does seem like a bit of an oversight to not address this. Strick RAW you are right but it's stupid to give a model a rule that doesn't work.

I still play the Avenger strike fighter, which indeed has Deep Strike.

If a flyer deep strikes, it is considered to be moving cruising speed.
Cruising speed for a flyer is over 18 and up to 36 inches.
The flyer does not crash, as the Zooming flyer counts as having moved at least 18 inches, as it counts as moving cruising speed

As I pointed out above, the "counts as moving Cruising Speed" applies only to the shooting phase.

It does indeed, but i would go with "there is no way to resolve it" so we take the "counts as" implying intent?

And yet this logic is counter to the "Can a Tervigon gate and then spawn" arguments that went around. If it "counts as" then it counts as having gone 18"

No, it counts as having moved. Which means it moved an undefined number of inches, which is neither more nor less than 18". Once you go to shoot your weapons, then it counts as having moved Cruising Speed.

As does the Raven Strike Fighter. I think there's a clear demonstration of intent here. I think that flyers which maintained Deep Strike but do not have Hover are intended to be able to do so without automatically crashing. Seems pretty clear. (I have heard a counter-argument that points out other models with useless rules, such as Lysander's Iron Halo, but the Raven even has a special rule pertaining to Deep Striking, so it was obviously intended to be able to do so.)
