In a 750/1000list battle what Is the best way to run Killa Kans against IG?

Big Shoota.

If he's got lots of tanks I guess just hope that you can walk up to it and smash it.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Leave them at home and bring deff koptas, big gunz or lootas instead.

but if you insist on taking them,

if you have a walking horde, then you'll want a KFF mek for your HQ.
if you're running speed freaks with everyone on vehicles and bikes, then you really don't want the kans as they're to slow.

playing them is easy, just like any other ork unit.
T1: move & run
T2: move & run
T3: move, shoot, assault.

Yeah, Big Shoota, Grotzooka... Hopefully you can draw fire with other threats, so you can close in

Would a deff dread be better?

The Deff Dread has the advantage that it is immune to S 5 and tougher against S 6-7, but as it faces more nasty firepower it gets worse in comparison to the kans. Against guard, I'd rather have two kans than one dread.

Tactically, you want to treat them a bit like footslogging nobs. Keep them away from serious firepower, use cover whenever possible and get into close combat whenever you can. If they can get into the enemy lines they will cause a lot of trouble, but it's a big 'if'.
