Whatcha riding, what tricks ya got down and how long ya been shredding?

Me? I have a 8.0" LibTech deck on Independent Trucks, Stereo Cruiser wheels, and Skate Mafia bearings. I like it, she's pretty fast and solid to ride. I can't even ollie yet but I've only been at it one summer so far.

Lets hear it! Longboarders too, don't be shy.

I have an Enjoi impact 8.25 on thunder 47mm hollows and ricta .53s. Bones Redz of course. I'm considering getting some risers and bumping my wheels up to like 57s or something, because the pavement is horrible here.

I skated about... seven years ago, but picked it up again because I'm bored. I can ollie and cruise around, but when I try to do anything more serious, I just fool around and get bored of it. It's just a time waster for me now. I don't have the freedom to just reinvent myself and live a different lifestyle anymore.

I used to skateboard up til I was about 22-23. I mostly bought my boards second hand from other skaters because I'm a cheapskate so I have no idea how good they were.

It's a fun way to get around- I used to skate to work a bit in 2007-2008. I never really got the hang of ollies, to be honest- I think my legs were a bit too weedy to get the explosive power needed, and I mostly just failed to ollie. I was able to grind a little if the thing I was grinding was possible to simply hook the board onto without ollie-ing though. Mostly I enjoyed going fast down hills and dropping off and mounting footpaths and kerbs.

My old board is knackered now, though, and I haven't done much beyond teaching my niece the basics in years. I sometimes think about taking it back up now that I'm in Germany- I see a lot more people skateboarding here, it seems much more normal than back in Ireland.

I used to have shop sponsorship and would kill myself on a regular basis from the age of 7 til 22.
Look after your knees kids, you might look like a bit of a dork warming up before a session but it'll mean that you can actually still bend them by the time you're 30.

I was never very technical, I could comfortably do most basic flip tricks but had no desire to learn them switch or doing flatland double nollie hardflip latecatch underflip reverts. I fell more into the burly category and just did the tricks that I had down and made them bigger faster and smoother. Big drops, stairsets, ledges and handrails were all a big part of my diet. I'm a tall guy so I could generate quite a big Ollie, just try and suck your knees up to your chin and you'll soon be getting over park benches. It's all technique, practice and balls whatever your shape.

Sometimes I'll still go to the park to carve the ramps or session a box for a bit but it's frustrating having fallen out of practice with it.

Setup would be 8" blank/shop branded decks (free or deep discounted), fury trucks with hard play doh bushings, south star risers, spitfire wheels and black panther bearings. I'd be given a few pairs of etnies every now and then and would wear baggy jeans and local shop t shirt.

Stay safe!

^^After a on/off 6 month break i discovered the pain of trying to get it back together. Loss of muscle, stamina and tricks. 3 months back in, and i lay in my bed struggling to wake up at 8.30am.

I too have broken knee syndrome. But i ride bikes so upper body gets the strain instead of anckles.

[edit]

Alex, just noticed you're from Bristol. Not suprising from reading your post. Bristol being strong in street. Who did you ride for? Do you know any of these names, Coleman, Selway, Arthur, Greenstreet? ! didn't want to list first names on the net...

Yeah, some familiar names there, though you missed out Mr Wainright. I used to get flown stuff from 50/50 back in the day. I dropped out in the early 2000's though, recovering from injury is a knightmare, it's easy to get "the fear" and not be as good as you were last time you were on a board. Basically I quit because each time I got on a board I would be trying not to land badly instead of trying to land the trick.
Progression=fun. Regression=me throwing my toys out and jacking it in.

Yeah i know of Wainright but only listed those who i knew. Well those guys i grew up with!

It's sad to hear you couldn't keep going. I feel the same about progression and after my break ( the reason i got into 40k again ) i realised it was gonna be hard to back off a bit but i just got on with it. And tbh my outlook on everything changed after doing some travelling and destroying my savings

Sports are just one of them weird obsessions that most people don't get. "why do you wanna throw yourself down them stairs?!" they say.

Ah skateboarding, a hobby I had for a few years then dropped it. Think I've still got my old board somewhere, couldn't tell you the make though its been so long.

I would look very out of place on a board now, though I kind of want to dig it out to try it XD

Skateboarding? Isn't that a crime?

Never really got into it myself. Not agile/athletic enough for it.
