Normally i like to start a log with a couple of finished pictures, so allow me to take a moment to warn you, this is different.

So lets begin; I've never actually considered the Sons of Horus as an army, because honestly i wasn't that taken with them (not like i was with the white scars). However i've been doing a little more digging following the release of the Horus sculpt - which by the way is to blame for this entire log. Ive begun to fall for them, certainly the style of the models has been growing on me since the first ones hit the shelves a while ago. In fact when Horus hit the FW site i almost lost control of my wallet. In honesty i think I haven't kept control now... hence this log.

So whats the plan?

This army is going to double up as a Crusade army list, and as a Black Legion force. I can't justify an army without having it used for 40k (30k's pretty small in my region) so everything is being build during the Heresy Era. There is going to be a few historical fudges (one coming up later) to make this army work for both genres.

So the first models to come will be;

30 Tactical marines
5 justaerin terminators
Abbadon and Loken
Horus

My rough plan is to build in the region of 50-70 infantry models, 4-5 tanks, at least one perhaps two full rapier battery squads and a few special models. Since this log won't see completion before late summer there's a chance FW will offer up even more goodies for me to add to the stock piles.

Now for the first model; Maloghurst the twisted.

Nice presentation and a great start. I love your take on Maloghurst. If I may ask, is the glossiness of the model from the photography or is there an actual gloss coat? If the latter, I'd try to dull down the non-metallics with a brush-on matte varnish to bring down the shininess. Otherwise, he looks great. I really like the chain-slung Bolter.

it'd a mixture of the two. I usually hold off on matt varnish until after photo's (they tend to make photo's a little dusty). As for the bolter; yeah i felt it was rather a neat little idea.

Your in luck.... keep scrolling.

Ok folks, it's time for this log to start ramping up. Todays model is the First Captain Ezekyle Abaddon.

Style choices time; The swords miscast but as i don't like the design i didn't bother chasing a repacement. I will be removing it and getting something more suited for my tastes later on. The eye of Horus' are kept faded to focus more attention to the future of Abaddon and not his role in the Horus Heresy itself. I wanted to keep it pretty utilitarian and simplistic rather than make him overly ornate.

Thoughts?
