I've already adjusted all the body parts to make this position possible, however I have run into one difficulty, the one that plagues us all from time to time. Weight. I just poured loads of loose lead shot down through his neck to test the weight, all the way down to the tail, and it seems to have done the trick. However, I now face some problems. First, I need to get it out, otherwise I'll have an expensive rattle toy, without making an almighty mess. That's easily solvable, but will still be a pain. The second problem is, how much weight should I use to make this viable? Has anybody else done something like this? The third problem is how do I place the lead inside, in a non-loose format, or should I just put them in, one at a time, with super glue on, and hope for the best?

I'm going to be standing him on top of some of Secret Weapon Miniatures broken Doric columns, like my Daemon Prince, at a very slight angle. I'll pin the feet at two points each to these, and hope for the best. I want to put weight in the Maulerfiend so that he's able to stand without his front weighing him down, but I don't want the weight to be too much pressure on the feet pins either.

Ok, this is what I have so far. I'll check it in the morning, to see has it fallen any, and perhaps adjust from there.

You could add some additional debris he's climbing over to the front of the base.

The one arm that is meant to be flush with the ground would look much better if there was something under it. IMO anyway.

I applaud the effort to get him into a new pose. I have three and have been brainstorming how to not have them all look like clones.

Oh no definitely, the base is only beginning, I was just going for a proof of concept and then decided to actually go for it.

I thought about putting something under that arm, but I can't think of anything that wouldn't look like a walking stick. Any ideas?

As the Maulers excel at ripping vehicles open a smashed up wreckage of a Rhino or Dreadnought would look great.

Even better if you have a regular opponent whose scheme you could paint it in.

I'm never keen on putting ruined models on bases with others. It can look amazing, but for me it is distracting. It starts to look sort of like a diorama then. It's one thing having a dead dude underfoot, but actively in the process of destroying it? I want to steer away from that.

I do have a 3rd Ed Dreadnought from when I was a kid that I could strip and smash up, like he was just climbing over it maybe.

what a great idea

Plus I like the idea do using a regulars colour scheme but not telling him/her before hand and just seeing the look on their face when you put it on the table haha

Yeah definitely. Whole models in active combat often look awkward. But if you were to hack it up to just be enough for him to be climbing over it would look great.

You could try pouring some thinned rubber cement inside the model so that the lead shot doesn't rattle around anymore. That would also add some weight to help with balance.

I have no idea if this would actually work because I've never done it lol, but I don't see why it wouldn't provided you use something that doesn't have any adverse effects like melting the resin.

I actually don't need the lead shot, it's able to support itself, I think. I'll wait until morning to see how it sets. I may have to pull it apart or add more pins.

If I do go down the Dreadnought route, I don't think I'll even need to strip it, I'll just spray black over it, cover it in typhus corrosion and lead belcher and blood for the blood god. It's my usual basing scheme, it makes everything look old and war torn, and it's much more complicated to explain than it is in real life.

Hopefully this will work, because I've changed too many parts to revert back to the standard kit.

It survived until morning anyway, and hasn't sank down. I do want him leaping, rather than climbing, if possible, But we'll see. He's stable, but he's delicate, and I don't like that.

I was going to say, as its all plastic I wouldn't see why pins wouldn't be enough. The weight of the plastic is easily countered by pinning.

i must agree I dislike ruined bodies or vehicles on bases, but only because I think it looks weird when playing other forces that dont match. But if the terrain was suitably ruined to make the vehicle indistinguishable. However I do like the idea of using ruin buildings, like it is climbing through the building in its current path

I've glued on the neck and head, and begun the basing. In retrospect, it should probably be slightly further back on the base, but it's too late now.

Side view.

Front view.

The last thing you'll ever see.

If you wish to keep the standing without support theme you might be able to have the supporting hand holding the mangled remains of something.

Then use some brass rod to connect the tattered remains to the base and cover it in a torrent of gore.

Adding some smoke plume to the top of the stacks might add some effect to it as well.

How would I go about doing that?

So, I tried having him holding a torrent of gore in his right hand, but I'm not sure how much sense it makes (why was there a lump of gore on the ground?), but I think this can be resolved by just covering the entire base in gore, and he's just grabbing some as he rears up on his hinds. There is a metal wire going through the gore torrent, super glued into a drilled hole in the hand, and the same in the base. The model was stable without this support, but delicate. It feels much stronger now, which was the main reason I did this.

I also added some gore to the tendrils and I gave him horns using green stuff. The horns need to be sharpened as soon as the green stuff cures, but I didn't even start to use the green stuff until it had been sitting there for 90 minutes. Anyway, on to the pictures.

I've got this guy almost completely painted. There's just a couple of hours left. Still to do is to give the red another coat, as you can see it doesn't look great, but it looks exactly how I expected it to look at this stage of the process. Also to do is to finish undercoating about half of the brass on the model, and then that will a second coat with a lighter colour. After that I need to paint the base, and then finally it will be the most fun part, blood splatters! Anyway, I didn't have my tripod handy, so I had to use the flash on some pictures to avoid long exposures, however I did manage to get a couple of the long exposures somewhat in focus just by holding my camera really still. Obviously the flash doesn't do the colour justice, but it lets you see more I suppose.

As you can see, I haven't gone for traditional Khornate colours, but this is the colour scheme of my own made up legion, the Tortured Vassals.

That looks pretty damn awesome, I like the idea of doing something a bit different with the maulerfiend
