Anyone have an easy way to balance out the ghost/doomsday arks, they are really lopsided with the cockpit.

I have not built mine yet, but was planning on using a larger size acrylic rod, inserted deeper into the model to hold it stable.

Those silly flight stands break off on most of my other skimmer models.

You can get 1/4" diameter rods at some hobby stores, and I drill holes in the bottom of the model. When there is not a solid area to drill into (for example, the shape is not flat) I drill what I can, and insert a small section of brass pipe (from hobby or hardware store) into the hole, and the supporting rod slips into that.

Of course, you could also mount some hidden weights on the other end of the model as well...

That is something that I was thinking of using, the weights that is, but I would rather not have to spend money on it, anyone have ideas for some weights you can find around the house that would work?

I have no idea what you have around your house, but maybe?
Pennies?
washers?

Go to walmart or a sporting good store, and get fishing line weights....they are dirt cheap.

Thanks, I have been messing around with money and what not, so far it seems 3 quarters and 7 pennies does it, I do like the idea of fishing line weights, I did not even think of that.

Brass rods are wonderful replacements for those fidgety little plastic stands GW makes.

Not sure if this is an issue as well, but I reassembled a broken Ghost Ark for a friend where it separated from the cockpit (for lack of a better word) and the rest of the spine.

I ended up getting a plasticard rod and running it down the length of the spine - fixed that right up. It's not related, but it can help the structure considering how sketchy all the individual joins are in the Ghost Ark.

i place mine on the spot cloest to the cockpit so it balances it out just fine. Which hole are you putting your stand?

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

On the closest one, it is missing the piece that is the actual hole for the stand there, so I am stuck putting in the second hole, which is why I need to balance it out. That's what I get for getting second hand, but you can't beat free.
