Hi All,

I've been thinking about starting an Empire army since I found the awesome Perry Miniatures War of the Roses models and was just wondering if it's worth it to get a couple of boxes of knights?

Just normal, on the horse style ones with full plate, not Demigryphs (which I have already been told are awesome)

Are there still different Knightly Order with special rules like Knights of the White Wolf etc?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Empire Knights come in 2 non-Demi varieties: Knightly Orders(which may take Lance and Shield or Great Weapon and which may have one unit upgraded to Inner Circle) and Reiksguard.

All the old orders exist fluff-wise, it's just that the standard unit covers them all.

Cool, are they decent in-game or best avoided?

What's different about Reiksguard knights? The models I am looking at actually look the closest to Reiksguard, and I am thinking of doing a Reikland army.

Get yourself some Knights of the Inner Circle, give them great weapons, barding, and Steel Standard and watch them woop some butt. Just don't aim them at a tarpit or they'll be there all day (at least with my luck).

IC knights are good. 1/2+ armour save (depending on what weapon you give them) is nice, and they hit hard. One downside is that they only have one attack each and you really want those to hit (especially if you use lances and get the charge) - putting a warrior priest in the unit can be a big boost.

If you face an army using lore of metal or has a lot of armour piercing, you risk having your expensive unit(s) torn apart though.

The biggest reason for why I use knights is that you don't have to transport as many models as you do if you run huge infantry blocks

They're Special choices and Stubborn. Other than that, they're Inner Circle Knights with Lance/Shield.

Technically there are 3x types of Knights you can do in an Empire Army. You have your Standard Core Knights, you can take 1x Unit of Inner Circle Knights as a Core Choice, who have a higher Strength and WS then the standard Core Knights, and finally the Reiksguard Knights, who have the same stats as the Inner Circle Knights, with the exception of them being Stubborn. The Reiksguard always come with Lance and Shield for the 1+ save, however you can chose to run both the Inner Circle or your Standard Core Knights with either Lance and Shield to give them the 1+ save, or make them Knights of the White Wolf, who have GW's which always gives them +2 strength, but they strike last and only have a 2+ armor save. OVerall it is really up to you what you want to do, however when I had Empire, I ran a horde of 30x Inner Circle Knights of the White Wolf for my Middenhiem-themed list, and they did very well for the most part, however looking back I think in the long run, the Regular Inner Circle Knights w/Lance and Shield are the way to go, as what makes Empire Knights so good is there 1+ save, as well as how cheap they are compared to other armies elite Cavalry.

its not a cav hammer its a great weapon. The only options they have are lance and shield or great weapon. Their might have been an old rule that gave them a weapon called cav hammers but not in the current book

I usually run my knights as either Reiksguards or 20 Innercircle with Lance/shield.

With the Innercircle Knights I try to have a Grand Master in that unit with Rune Fang, enchanted shield and potion of speed. That gives the unit an auto wound weapon, if it hits and he is deadly in a challenge due to his potion of speed which gives him a round where he have I-9. He also grants that unit immune to psychology.

The reiksguard I field less, they are counted as Innercircle Knights but you need to put Kurt Helborg into the unit to get Immune to Psychology. They are also stubborn.

If I ttake either I put in a steel standard.
