Subject: Void Shield Generator - Plasma Lamps?

So today I found an old plasma lamp at a yard sale and bought it for my son. (He isn't old enough to think it's cool yet, but by golly he will...)
Got me thinking. It'd be pretty easy to build up a walkway/battlements around a plasma globe, and these things are all over.
What do you guys think? Would that look cool? Or be lame? Should I just buy them, or is it cheaper/easier to make one? Almost all of the ones I've found are either USB powered or plug into a wall socket. Can you convert either of those to use battery power, and how hard do you think that would be? (I obviously don't want a bunch of wires trailing off my terrain...)

I think that, so long as you modeled it to look like more than just a plasma lamp, it could be pretty awesome. Do they get hot like lava lamps? It's been forever since I've had one and I could see that be an issue with paint and glue and such.

Only if you leave conductive material in direct contact with the globe, but I wasn't going to build it that way. (Think like the catwalks around the second story of the warp core in Star Trek.)

I think it's a pretty awesome idea!
It's certainly been executed well enough in the past,
I think you should go for it if you can find a way to rewire it to battery powered.
