before i get a bunch of grief from other IG players about using the dreaded rough riders, i have an idea to take the thunderwolf cavalry and replace the space wolves with guardsmen. The problem im having is how i would actually go about doing that, so any suggestions?

A good place to start might be this rough rider conversion kit from Victoria Miniatures.

I'd imagine your next step would involve purchasing the Thunderwolves, removing their riders and then replacing them with Vic's rough rider legs. After having a quick look at the TWs the riders come separate to begin with. So They shouldn't need much in the way of actual converting. Just slap the guardsmen legs on in place of the marines legs. You might need to do a bit of filing to get the legs and wolves to fit flush together but that should be about it.

Thunderwolf Cavalry would be way, WAY too big. If you really want them riding wolves, go with Fenrisian Wolves. They'll also be cheaper.

Yeah rough riders are T3 1W dudes (why do they still not get the +1T bonus for being mounted again?) thunderwolves would barely even fit on normal cavalry bases let alone look right for them.

Are You playing space wolves with IG models or space wolves with just one cavalry squad with IG odels?

I'm playing Imperial Guard that are based off an Ice world kind like the Space Wolves so they are Fenrisian styled. And i wasnt really worried about them fitting on Cav bases i was going to use them more as a display piece. So fenrisian wolves would be the better fit?

I wish I could remember where, but I saw some RR mounted on bears. They were Valhallan's I think?
They rocked. I agree with the others, I feel the TWC mounts would be way too big.
