I have been playing BA at 750 for a while now and have started to think about expanding my army to 1500. I want to get a list which I like and which will be reasonably competitive. From reading around on forums it seems that most people are going for MSU in razorbacks but I would like to stick with jump pack marines as I want my army to be assault based. Also I love terminators, haven't played with them yet but cream at the idea of a squad of TH/ SS terms bursting out of a Stormraven and wrecking face!
Anyway, here is the list I have come up with:
HQ
Librarian, JP (Shield and Sword) 125
Elites
5 TH/ SS T erminators
Furioso, talons, HF 135
Corbulo
Priest, JP, PW 90
Troops
10 Assault marines, 2MG, PW 225
10 Assault marines, 2MG, PW 225
Fast Attack
2 Attack bikes, MM
Baal predator, LCAC, HB sponsons 145
Baal predator, LCAC, HB sponsons, SB 155
Heavy Support
Stormraven, MM, LC
1500pts
My plan is to start with the 2 assault squads, the attack bikes, jump pack priest, librarian and 2 Baals on the board.
The 2 Baals provide consistent fire as long as they survive.
Shield from the librarian and FNP from priest give the assault squads and the bikes 5+ cover and 5+ FNP if deployed close together.
Depending on the opponent army, I may move the squads across the table as quickly as possible or stick to cover to avoid being wiped out in the first two turns.
In Turn 2 the Stormraven will hopefully come in but I can use Corbulo's re-roll if needed. Then turn 3 unload the raven. Terminators, accompanied by Corbulo, seek out high priority targets and the Furioso assaults enemy infantry.I will hopefully be able to bring my assaults squad in to combat this turn.
I think that the main frailties of the list are that my 20 assault marines need to do a lot; survive, win combats and secure objectives. Also, if the stormraven doesn't come in on turn 2 it basically going to go Pete Tong!
What do you think. All feedback more than welcome.
Thank you in advance

In your list you don't have termies but you talk about them in your plan. Personally I run it usually with 2 Priests and with JP and attach them to the Assault marines then for my list I drop the Attack bikes and corbulo for a devastator squad and if you have points left give the Sgt of the Assault marines 2 Lightning claws.

Thanks for pointing that out Wahjibodie. I added the to the list.
Do you think Corbulo in the overkill?
Despite having a lot of melta in the army, I am unsure about taking out the attack bikes because without them I lack the ability to take high AV targets out at range. If I did drop them in favour for a devastator squad, they would be equipped with S8 AP3 missile launchers.

I do think Corbulo is overkill he's nice and I like running him because he is very survivable but for 20 points less you can run a priest in terminator armor to follow your Termies. You don't get that single re-roll but most times it isn't game changing. I always take the Missile launchers, they are more versatile switching from a blast to a single is nice because if you are hitting a 2+ armor then you might as well get more hits on the unit since you aren't busting the armor anyway. Personally that's why I would take a PC on the Raven instead of las, you drop str by 2 and have a chance of getting hot but you can hit more people and you can re-roll if needed cause it's TL.

I haven't played this list yet but I think I would miss Corbulo's re-roll in case I don't get the Stormraven in on my first reserves roll.
Also, as I am reliant on the SR for my AA, is the LC not a better choice?
Thanks for the feedback BTW

No worries man, I love discussing list and tactica about my armies. For your SR if that's the main use for you then yea the las is better. I normally don't think about that because with my group of players I don't see fliers under 2k except for the ork player and a flyrant for the nid player. So anti air isn't too much of a big deal. I completely understand about not getting it in on turn 2 but I've not gotten it even with his re-roll several times so it's kinda lost its luster.

Yeah I know what you mean about the re-roll. 1 in 4 chance of not getting it isn't great.
I think what I would really like is another assault squad. If I dropped Corbulo, the attack bikes and the SB I could get a 10 man squad with 2 MG and MB.
What do you think about that?
I have considered taking devastators but I want to keep the entire army mobile.

Curbulo is extremely important to a TH/SS Termi Death Star. Tanking all of the strength 7 and below shots and look out sirring the rest, and re-rolling the one he fails, I think he is worth it. Completely.

I was thinking that Corbulo could make a big difference however at 1500 points I can't have everything and would it not be better to have a third assault squad instead?

Having that extra squad is helpful seeing as you can combat squad if you find yourself in a big objective game. I love DC, my favorite BA unit but they are pricey. 5 man squad with power weapon and a Drop pod is 300 and you are throwing out 25 attacks on the charge at Int 4 and WS of 5. If you want a mobile assaulting army could always try a vanguard veteran squad. They can assault the turn they deep strike. (now I hear people saying that they lost that in the FAQ but I can't find it anywhere) If it hasn't been changed then its great, a 5 man squad JP, SS, PW for 325. They are both mean CC units, but very pricey.

All you can do with taking out curbulo is get a 5 man squad, and sorry, but those die.

Well, he also was going to take out the attack bikes and the SB on the predator, that would give 215 pts with corbulo.

Corbulo makes th/ss squads great. In close combat with normal attacks, corbulo can just tank everything. Even monstrous creature hits unless they smash, in which case have the termies shield it.
He's so much more important than a normal priest in that squad.

Glory Warrior I agree with what you are saying but I just think that, considering the points limit, a third assault squad would be a better way to spend the points. No?
This is what I am thinking:
HQ
Librarian, JP (Shield and Sword) 125
Elites
5 TH/SS T erminators
Furioso, talons, HF 135
Priest, JP, PW 90
Troops
10 Assault marines, 2MG, PW 225
10 Assault marines, 2MG, PW 225
10 Assault marines, 2MG, MB 215
Fast Attack
Baal predator, LCAC, HB sponsons 145
Baal predator, LCAC, HB sponsons, 145
Heavy Support
Stormraven, MM, LC
1500pts
Obviously I am light on priests but it is hard to get the ballance when 425 points are spent on TH/SS and SR.

Corbulo makes that unit go from your typical 7/10 threat to being the closest thing BA have to a really good deathstar, that's priced nicely. Don't drop him. He also helps the termies deal with tarpitting tactics, as otherwise they're only killing 3-4 WS 4 dudes a turn. Stubborn or fearless AM squads could hold them up all day without corbulo there to chop in with another 5 attacks.
I really prefer to run ASM sarges naked, so there would be 35 points available. Just go down to a smaller third ASM squad to get corbulo back in.

When facing tar-pitting units I would try to get the Furioso to assault them from the SR.
What way do you run your BA army, Glory Warrior?

Take out the furioso and give curbulo back in... A furioso without transport isn't that good.
I run mech BA, but have done my fair share of Jump armies too.
I have run Curbulo from 1500 to 2000 point games.
Oh, yeah, and another deathstar for BA is 30 Death Company with a chaplain.

I meant to ask niv-mizzet how do you run your BA?
WahjibodiE, I think that even though the DC are beast 300 points on a non scoring army would be two much, especially how much I am spending on the SR and terms.
With regards to the VV, I am not certain about how they work although I do believe that they can still assault from deep strike. However this is something which I expect to change when the new codex comes out. Again, I think that they could be excellent but that would be another unit in reserve and another non-scoring unit.

I love the DC deathstar. What do you usually outfit them? I made a fun list and allied them with my Tau, 30 man DC with JP and Power mauls a chaplain with JP and Dante. The look on my friends face when I DS that in. Hilarious.

Assaulting from deep strike got FAQ'd out for BA also. And I would say you should get a scout squad with camo-cloaks... thats an objective. 90 points and you go to ground behind a ruin everytime they are shot at should keep em alive... works for me.

Yeah, I suppose I could take Corbulo and a scout squad with camo and a missile launcher for 100 which leaves 10 points left over but I like the idea of the army being highly mobile.
Have you used bolter scouts and brought them in using outflank before?

I have, but they die extremely easy, and you'll almost always have an objective in your deployment zone, so you should be able to score and I wouldn't give them a missile launcher because it makes people want to shoot at them more, because they are more of a threat. If you leave them with just snipers, they can sit in the background and hide.

If you're trying to do a death star, you need a full 10 TH/SS termies. They simply aren't THAT survivable, you have to know that. Also, I'd always do CC termis in a landraider. They need the mobility, but a stormraven will lead to them not being able to assault until at least turn three.

That's a good point troa about the turn 3 assault. I choose the SR becasue it gives me AA and a transport and is also 50 pts cheaper.
Would you run a squad of 10 at 1500 points? That's 700pts!

Lose the baal predators. They are cool but get blown to hell every game. Armor 11 on the sides equals death by turn 2 or turn 1
Too easy to maneuver around to get those side shots in my experience and armor 11 gets glanced or blown to hell.
A thousand yes to corublo with your termies
3+ armor 2+ FNP with look out sir if needed.
Plus you get your re roll for your storm raven reserve roll if needed.
Furioso. Make it a fragiiso. Go frag cannon with blood fist and a heavy flamer.
Blood talons are cool but you need to avoid 2+ armor at all cost
Fragiosso allows you to kill mass troops while blood fist is a strength 12 insta kill and vehicle destroyer.
I'd go with 2 storm ravens. Don't ever get the hurricane bolsters. Waste or points for something that will be targeted.
Get a corublo
I personally love to run a DC in a LR with a Libby
You a 5 man assault squad and remove their jump packs for the 35 pt discount on the LR and make 5 man squad an objective holder in your zone
Never put any men inside your storm ravens
If you do make sure they are TH/SS termies so you get your 3++ invul at least. If you any Assault marine or DC and they're all gonna die. Dreadnought at your own risk if a SR blows up it takes an auto penetration hit
Automatically Appended Next Post: It's just high risk high reward when you put gak in your SR you come on the board and move it into a good position but you don't unload you run the risk of it being blown to hell if it dies with its cargo. It's an epic loss. If it survives. That's great you get to unload the cargo and charge next turn.
If you zoom into good position but decide to use blood sky or skies of fury or whatever it is. You have to be extremely careful as to where you drop your cargo as well as what can shoot at your goods. Automatically Appended Next Post: In conclusion blood angels have it tough hopefully we get a good update in the codex at the end of the year
