Next week I'll have a escalation tournament at my local club. I normally play Eldar but seeing how everybody is really casual I wanted to field something else than an Eldar SH. I saw the Hammer of Cadia box release and thought that a Baneblade or Hellhammer would be more fun to field and seeing I already have some 30 something this would comppplement my force nicely.

I hoped to be able to build a Shadowsword with the box but unfortunately it seems to be just the old mold meaning a Hellhammer or Baneblade.

Now the question is what to build, I was thinking of converting one Leman Russ into a executioner and make him my Pask with two eradicatiors as his back up.

The Hellhounds I will probably turn into Chimera's for my Catacians.

But which super heavy should I build? The Baneblade is good but nothing special, the Hellhammer sure does pack the punch but only has 36' range on his main gun.

As I want air support I'm probably allying in a crimson hunter as i Dont own any IG fliers and will take a mantle jet autarch for reserve shenanigans with two bike squads for reserves.

What do you guys advice?

Is it to hard to convert the baneblade into a shadow sword?

It is maybe possible but seeing my time frame its a no go. I basically have 2 afternoons to assemble the whole box.

Ahhh Well in that case I would use the hellhammer. You can move it and still shoot everything at full bs, so short range shoudnt be a huge problem

I believe this Hellhammer kit is actually the baneblade box, which you can make any and every super heavy tank variant

Hellhammer is the best choice for the Baneblade. I am still kicking myself for making mine a Baneblade. Why not use Hellhounds, though? They aren't terrible.

As for the Leman Russ... I'd buy a Demolisher turret off of ebay with all of the weapon options and make a Pask Punisher with a LC/MM set up. Magnetize the rest of the russes but make the Vanquisher instead of the Battle Cannon.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Hellhammer is nice, but I think a previous poster was correct in that the new baneblade box should actually make ALL baneblade chassis kits.

In which case, you can't go wrong (in my opinion) with the Stormsword. S10, ignores cover, AP1 (2?) will decimate nearly any tank it touches and the template is 10" wide, unlike 7" for the hellhammer (which has a turret, but is the only added benefit).

Going from S9 to S10 makes a huge difference for instant-killing certain models like bikers of all types, nurgle marines, daemon princes etc. The D weapon of the shadowsword is tempting, but at 5" wide it's not that hard to miss entirely and it's actually got less odds of killing a daemon prince than the stormsword (though, granted, it can kill things like tervigons in one shot if you roll a 6).

As I stated the box does NOT contain the parts for the other variants, they used their old Baneblade mold.

I can pick up a punisher turret from a buddy so I will probably build a Punisher instead with backup Vanquishers. This seems to be the best of most of the options.

Going for a Executioner is also nice but what complements that?

Without the alternative setups, go with a hellhammer. Ignores cover is vital. Sucks to use a baneblade only to have your opponent go to ground for a 2+ cover save.

Could always magnetize things, too.
