Does anyone else feel like they are addicted to 40k? I constantly check the big forums, watch every youtube video I can find, and buy more than I should on eBay.

But why? The gameplay is okay and I dont even like building/painting all that much. Anyone else like this?

Addicted? Is it time to go to the Betty Ford Rehab Clinic for Miniature Addicts?

Maybe it's the fluff. I've had a feeling lately that GW's fluff is a lot more engaging than their overpriced miniatures, imbalanced ruleset, and terribly-balanced game. It does have some very cool fluff.

Addicted? Not really. It's just the game that fits the kind of thing I want to play and the sort of setting that interests me. I'd pick up something else if it interested me more or if GW does enough stuff to annoy me that 40k is effectively ruined for me by association.

I think the main thing that helps is that since 40k is so relatively inconvenient to play, you don't get to as much, so it takes longer to get it out of your system. A good video game you can binge on for a week or two and it will tend to get old. 40k you might get one game in a week for a few hours, and then the rest of the time you're dwelling on it.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Addicted? Not really. The forums kill time at work and I tend to play other games.

I think you like what keeps a lot of people interested in this game: the background and the quality of the models.

Look at the News & Rumors page- threads about new 40k releases have massive amounts of buzz because people want to see what new models are on the way. Possible releases where you get good background combined with great models bring even more people to the table...heck, the forum exploded when there was rumor of a skirmish-sized Inquisitor 28mm game, it's only too sad it was a fake rumor.

I'm in a similiar position to you, ressgonzol. I really like GW's aesthetic, but the 40k lore was what really got me into their products (I have never done a WHFB army, at least, not yet). I have been growing increasingly concerned about the future of the game, and that has probably only drawn my attention more so, although in a perverse manner.

Addicted to 40k? No, GW might have had me a hostage for a long time, but I've broken ranks with them, I'm really not pleased with the direction they've taken, and in reality, they've actually made it more difficult for me to purchase their product, both as a result of pricing and as a result of the 'balkanization' (for want of a better term) of their product via multiple rules sources and a grossly accelerated released schedule.

Addicted to tabletop gaming? Yes. Privateer Press, Wyrd, Corvus Belli, and others have a stranglehold on my wallet.

Pretty much this. I'm not so much addicted to 40k as I am addicted to dakka. I tend to have periods of focusing on one game or another without getting to play them too much, so I end up going through lots of youtube battle reports and posting on the forums about them.

Besides, let's face it, you all are more interesting than most people I actually encounter on a daily basis.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

It's either DakkaDkka or watching Pewdiepie make silly noises to kill the time. I think I would rather pick the stuff that is about space lasers and how big ultra heroes are immune to them.

It's the fluff, it's definitely the fluff. Once you read a few bits and bobs here and there enough to get a smell of 40ks universe then it's like the addiction consumes you depending how much of a sci if buff you are. Same principles applied with every type of hardcore fan like star trekkers, Star Wars vets and all that. I think 40k is balanced with rich background, followed by very highly detailed minis and topped over by competitive play.
I think to myself when I was a kid why the hell did I collect marbles, Lego and garbage pale kid cards? Reason? Absolutely no idea why I had the love but it was there and I spent billions on them, understand with 40k which came much later in my life I'm battling myself every day not to buy loads of unnecessary items even though my heart burns to fork out. If that's not a similar story to someone battling a drug addition or a gambling addiction then it's proof enough we are mostly addicted - just how far though have we been consumed by chaos..?

Once when gw was about the hobby yes, but they changed and decided vets were worthless and that's when I stopped being a fan.

I haven't bought anything in years though my friends get me things for Xmas and birthdays.
