hi gang,

I was airbrushing some zenithal highlights on a few marines and realized later that I'd gotten a little heavy in a few spots. it's not bad enough that I can't live with it, but it got me thinking... if things had gone worse, is there an easy way I could fix it? in my case, the colors I was using were black primer, necron abyss in all the recessed areas, regal blue as the base color and then top-down zenithal highlights with very thin space wolves gray (all airbrushed). would spraying a blue wash over the model help out there? is there some other trick that would help knock the space wolves gray back a bit?

cheers

Hey Varl, I'd imagine a light wash in a complementary colour would go a little way towards rectifying the problem. Whilst it wouldn't cover any sharp lines you may have unintentionally created, it would help blend the two areas back together, and tone down the starkness of the highlight. That's just my own hypothesis though, as I don't use an airbrush, or have any idea about Zenithal highlighting, I can't vouch for that working.

You can use a glaze. Les from APJ uses one for that exact reason in this video

Take your base color, thin it down considerably, pull the airbrush a few extra inches away and use it to "dust" the entire model.

You can use the same trick to dull things like bright decals down so they blend a little better with the base color.
