I just bought the cadian defence force that Im about to glue together and I have a bunch of cadians since before.
There is so many options for the Command Squads. So I want to ask Dakka, how do you use YOUR command squads?

I really like the flags, they look so good on the battlefield, but Im afraid they are rather useless.
The medic is also nice, but FNP in a 5man squad? I dont know...
Vox, special weapons, heavy weapons, commisars, primaris, priests, taurox or chimeras?
This must be one of the game's most customizable unit.

Also, for the Company Command Squad, are you using the advisors?
I think the master of the flees it awesome. Two of those (40p) and you can just ignore the enemys fliers.
The little telepath is cute. And the Master of random pie plates just for the fun of it.
Don't forget that Straken makes the squad Relentless, and the Master of Pie plates so much better. A Deathstar maybe?

Post your favorite setup and why this is working for you.

I love my medic. I know it's not the most popular choice, but the command squad is a popular target and FNP has denied my opponents the kill the warlord point more than once.

I've not finalised my new command squad since the new codex, but the medic will definitely be staying.

Balls to the walls Melta drive bys. Of course, that won't work any more, so they might find themselves travelling Valk Air now. If they've gotta get out at the end of the ride to melt stuff, might as well get them there is style.

Pretre: OOOOHHHHH snap. That's like driving away from hitting a pedestrian.

Don't forget Master of Ordnance. He was worth it even before, now he's much better for a comsquad that's gona sit behind a mass of guardsmen.

The flag is THE reason to get a CCS; the 12 inch Ld re-roll bubble (expect orders) is a life saver in a low Ld army like the guard. My CCs are usually a flag, a vox, 2 plasmaguns.

I will surely start using the OftF more often as well to help deny reserves.

I'm pretty sure this is the fourth question thread I've seen on this. I may do a summary write up for reference based on general opinion.

I run:

1) Barebones, maybe a Vox Caster/OoTF+ MoO (Not so much now we have Tank Commanders)

2) Mechanised, with 3-4 specials, +/- Vox, Astropath (unless you get a specifically useful power, Psychic Shriek is hilariously good at 25), and I'm now considering Nork to turn the unit into a better gap-filler and increase its survivability.

And don't doubt the humble CCS in CC. You'd be surprised at some of the stunts they can pull in a last ditch charge.

I'll just quote my response in the last thread for now

I take two CCS, and they are my de facto heavy weapons teams.

- Master of Ordnance
- Missile Launcher
- Two Snipers

Depending on points (1500+), take officer of the fleet in the non-warlord squad. Astropath with the warlord. I'll also give my non-warlord CCS a lascannon to make them a slightly more juicy target than the warlord.

These squads can hunt tanks with bring it down, or heavy infantry with fire on my target. I will deploy them far apart so that no one squad can easily dispatch both CCS. At the first sign of trouble, my CCS goes to ground, next turn Get Back in the Fight!

I'll be trying this.
As the CCS is all veteran, their's is the joint-best BS in the codex. If you're using them to issue orders, kit them up with long range weapons.
I would keep them in a Chimera if I need to move them, or in a WoM bunker. It's cheap-ish, and can fit a quad-gun on the roof, but needs the SA book to use.

As for PCS, they go well with flamers, in a fast transport. Last-turn objective grabbers, with the option to give out orders beforehand.

Master of the fleet is good if you have fliers or other reserves, to get them in early.
If not, changing the enemy's 2/3 change to 2/4 is nice, but only until turn 4. The reserves power cannot keep them off forever.
