So, in a modelling sense, would it be okay to represent regular bolters on (in this case) Grey Hunters but using Angelus Bolter models?

The Grey Hunters in question will not be Space Wolves in appearance. I am planning on using SW rules to represent my own custom legion and the Angelus Bolters would be modeled appropriately.

I feel it would be okay considering that Sanguinary Guard are quite distinct models and it would be quite difficult to confuse them with regular infantry.

What do you think?

Over-all I'm thinking about making all of the ranged weapons for my chapter as either wrist-mounted or shoulder-mounted as (fluff wise) they are a chapter that excels in swordsmanship and so would keep their hands free for swordplay (They will be samurai-themed).

In the past I have done conversions with combi-bolters as having a regular bolter as well as a shoulder-mounted 1shot. I quite liked the result and would like to echo the theme throughout this army. My only issue is, with having wrist-mounted weapons as regular guns (bolters, plasmaguns, meltaguns ext.) and shoulder-mounted weapons as combi 1shots, how would I/should I represent pistols?

At the moment I'm thinking of regular pistols as either being held as per usual or strapped to their armour somewhere.

In addition to my original question, Y'all could hit me with some ideas?

Allied Imperial guard as "ashigaru" would work well too thematically imo. There are some great samurai and ashigaru kits from Wargames Factory. The WGF ashibaru bowmen arms can be used with some hacking and modifying to hold rifles instead of bows which works well. You should also get some sashimono that you can add to your SMs if you buy some of those kits. A couple allied infantry platoons to provide troop bodies, with commissars modeled as samurai-SM's would be pretty awesome imo. Would also give access to good IG armour which is always nice.

Thanks for the input. It is certainly something for me to consider.

I've thought about all sorts of ways I could make a thematic samurai army (including CSM and GK) but SW just seem to feel right. At the moment I'm heavily exploring the possibility of Inquisitorial allies themed as a ninja(DCA, AcroFlag) and rifleman(Acolyte, GunMonkey) detachment though I will certainly look into IG.
IG would give me more ranged firepower but no fun ninja shenanigans.

If you have any other ideas feel free to share. I like hearing what other people think even if I don't necessarily follow their ideas or advice.

My full plan was to have all combi-weapons represented as wrist-mounted bolter and a small shoulder mounted plas/melt/flam
I've done the shoulder mounting on a model before and I was very please with the results however now I'm thinking that pistols could be shoulder-mounted and the single combi-shot be, as you suggested, attached to a servo-skull or something of the equivalent (not sure if my army would have servo-skulls or something that looks unique but serves the same functions)
