Sorry if this is already covered somewhere, but the search tool doesn't seem to be working. I'm working on a Captain America mini and I want to give the shield a good metallic effect, but I'm not sure how to do the red and blue sections justice. I was thinking of building up a nice silver surface, then washing it with red and blue inks, but I'm unsure if that would get the right look, and how that would look with the plain silver. If anyone has suggestions of a good way to acheive something like this, I'm all ears!

You about mixing in some red/blue paint into the metal?

Otherwise I would just copy the NMM technique from the studio scheme.

Mixing the paint in with the metallic s will make the colors pastel. For the best results base coat in a very bright silver like Mithri Silver. Then airbrush thinned Tamyia Clear Red and Tamyia Clear Blue over the respective areas.

One idea might be to try a glaze paint, like the Citadel bloodletter glaze etc, just paint silver then put whatever color glaze to get the metallic color you want. I've had limited success with this, it depends on what you're trying to do with this Captain America model.

Washing with an ink can give some decent results; I've done that on some of my models. Mixing a colour with a metal gives it a pale colour, with red this will turn it pink so you'd still want to use some ink.

This will turn the red pastel and make a metallic pink.

See the second description down about metallic mediums

Several companies sell metallic reds, I'd just buy one of those.
