First off, sorry if I've already made a topic about this, I've forgotten if I had.
So, got some cheap dice for Easter and I figure it would be a fun little trick to load them (Don't worry, I wont be using them in any games, just to mess around with. I'll be loading them on the ones anyway). I tried putting them in the microwave for 40 seconds, but they are just way to thick.

Easy way if they are opaque pip style d6.
Drill into the side opposite the one you want facing up. Insert weighted pieces, backfill hole.
So if you want it to come up a 6, drill the 1, insert a couple of small ball bearings, shot or fishing weights (depending on size of die and hole) and backfill with putty or something (and paint) to conceal.
With other dice, not as easy, but heating OR sanding just enough off the opposite face to create MORE surface area can work.
With the crystal type dice (clear) you need to wet polish (with a diamond wheel, for example) this or you will just scratch the bejeezus out of them and it will be SOOOO obvious.
There have been attempts using magnetically loaded dice (using a magnetic pigment ON the opposite facing and an electromagnet under the table) - but the paint weighs more and those faces sink when placed in water, like the first type of loaded dice.
Casinos use a variety of tests on their dice.
From the spindle (a die with a shaved down face will impart a wobble on the spin that is very apparent.) test, to the glass of water (weighted dice fall loaded side down and the other type of test is to place them side by side and just feeling them.
If one is uneven, there will be an obvious hump or dip.
I spent a couple of years as a craps croupier at a casino.

I personally dont care about how legitimate they look (I dont plan to use them at a casio, and I'm not even sure If I'm legally allowed to go to one yet), they just need to look decent enough that you wont notice anything wrong at a glance.

I bet if you drilled out 2 extra holes on the 2 to make it a 4 (so you'd have 1,3,4,4,5,6) it'd take your opponent a while to notice anyway.

You'd get more 5's that way though. To get 4s, you need to do the 3. Opposite sides on a die add up to (#faces+1). In the case of a d6, that's 7 - So 1-6, 2-5, 3-4 are the pairings on standard dice. It holds true for D8s, 10s, 12s, etc, too. Opposite sides add to X+1 where X is the number of sides. D12s opposites add to 13. If you have 20 siders that DON'T add to 21, you probably have "spin" dice used for games like M:TG (some players use them to show life points or something. We had a player dq'd from an infinity tourney here for using this kind of die. )
