Redoing my armies to update them a bit to fit with the times. I know JP armies aren't what they use to be. Any advice would be great.

You need SP's. Just take two BP's w/ TLAC and HB's and get two SP's.

I can only really get one with a PW and a JP...this leaves me with 45 pts. To spare. I don't want to cut another pred. Ideas?

just dont get a PW, and take a man off one of the squads...

It's better to have FNP and not have one ASM.

Heavy Flamer sponsons on Baal are awful.

With TLAC you want to stay away and shoot the infantry, Heavy Bolters do that a lot better.
That gives you 10 mid-S AP4 shots with range.

Agreed. Never get heavy flamer sponsons unless you give it flamestorm, but even then I think heavy bolters are better

Or take off a baal pred and get an honour guard with jps for an inbuilt priest who can confer his buffs to other squads within 6" like any other priest. Drop 2 assault marines to afford it upgrade to hbs and you have 9pts spare. Grab a set of mbs.
This gives you 5 more marines with vet stats rather than just a solo priest.

Damn, looks great!
I would still drop some minor uprgades to switch that MB on the Honour Guard to another Meltagun.
Single Meltagun is lame, spamming special weapons is what the HG can do well!

So maybe drop the Power Weapon from the smaller assault squad and either take total of three Meltaguns or two Guns and two bombs?

I think that SP's are better for the fact that the squads can split up and don't have to sit within 6" of each other and all they have to do is kill a 5 man squad for all your marines to be squishy.

Its a tough decision between the SP and the HG....

I am leaning towards the SP, but I am worried about the new challenges rule...

Just don't accept. You'll be fine.

Glory...thanks for all the advice. I have been weighing the options and I think the duel SP is a better route, although possible overkill...it is more beneficial for the whole army.

I must say, I am really digging this list especially considering its from a 5th codex.

man, I think that looks great. make sure to put the Baal Predators behind cover, seeing as all their anti tank will be focused on you.
