Hey dakka, so I just bought a few of the Reaper Miniatures "Bones" line of minis. They are made of some kind of flexible polymer/plastic blend (so reshaping is possible to do), but I'm running into a kinda big issue here...
I've primed them with my usual primer, twice. Both times, theyve come out sticky and shiny, as opposed to flat as the paint can says it is. Normally, I use Krylon Flat Black spray for all my priming, and up until now, it's worked for me. I've used the stuff on four different 40k armies, two WHFB armies, two Warmachine factions, Malifaux, etc. (so i've gotten quite good at getting a thin, smooth coat of flat paint) and these are the first minis i have had issue with.
Does anyone have experience with these minis? And if so, what primer have you used successfully on them?

Did you wash the models with dish soap and warm water?

Yep, and i stripped them after the first spraying.. I'm not sure, but Im almost inclined to believe that the "material" of the paint in Krylon and whatever this reaper "polymer" is aren't reacting in the same manner as your standard plastic, metal or resin minis.

There are some brands of primer that really don't go with bones. Check out some of the posts frim when the first reaper kickstarter was delivered.
I use automotive primer without issue.

Thanks treslibras. I had looked at the first link for reshaping a mini, but not for the priming, lol.

The Reaper forum links are worth a read. As mentioned in those threads, the particular polymer does react with certain paints, keeping them from properly curing.
I've personally had great luck using Vallejo's PU primer. I've both brushed it on neat and sprayed it thinned with Vallejo airbrush medium. Both ways worked far better than painting directly on the plastic which, while possible, was a bit fiddly (the material is hydrophobic, so you can't thin the initial layer - had a few spots where even unthinned paint on washed and dried plastic wanted to bead up).
