For me (orks), its ziplock bags for each squad. 30 per gallon freezer bag x6. +1 20xLootas +1 10x Burnas. +1 10x Nobz. Then I have foam core cubicle trays (x4) in a giant tote. With my two new stompas in-bound. I'm going to have to expan... AGAIN.

This is getting out of hand. You guys (gals) have pics of your storage solution. I bought a Battle Foam biant tote on a whim. Hated it. Not becuase it's a bad product, just didn't fit my needs.

I use a giant battle foam bag for my IG. Well worth the cash IMO.

I have my IG in a big tackle box, though I'll probably end up using some of the foam I have for the metal models because the paint tends to get chipped up pretty bad while they bounce around in the plastic box. Can't get any pics at the moment but here's the link to it:

http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Plano-1374-Molding-4-Rack-System&i=400939

Pretty simple, and it's big enough that a codex will fit in the top compartment along with a vendetta or two and a few chimeras. I have all of my paints in one of the trays, so I leave that one out of the bottom and I can fit about 5 Leman Russes with the turrets removed along the bottom of the box as well. I probably have about 150 guardsmen in the thing along with some HWT, and either all of my tanks or my paints.

I cringe every time someone tosses painted minis into a shoebox/bag/pile.

While GW’s cases are not very space/price efficient, you can cram a LOT of basic troops into one KRU from KR multicase, and I’m sire the same could be said about the other bag manufacturers.

My favorite is to glue rare earth magnets to their bases and use the cheap cookie tins you get from dollar stores. The magnets are strong enough to keep them from moving around and the tins, which I also glue magnets to, stack up nice and easy allowing me to carrying them in plastic bags.

I use foam Egg Cartons. They work absolutely fantastic. Only problem is that they are kinda fragile.

Yeah, it makes me very sad.

I have a horde of guardsmen, and I just use regular battle foam. If you rip out the little pieces in a compact way, you can easily fit 30 models in a single small tray. There's no reason a regular army case can't fit a horde in it.

As for the practical side, it's not too bad if you kind of plan ahead. In my case, I have it arrayed so that the edges are where my sergeants and special weapon holder are, and then everything else in the middle is just for guardsmen, and I can throw them in in any order once I've got the special ones lined up. Packing up minis over the course of the game can help as well.

Otherwise, it's just practice. Play a horde long enough, and you can get pretty quick with all of the unpacking/moving/rolling/repacking. No need to horribly abuse one's minis in the process.

the only models im rough with are my cultists, and even then they have an entire tray, being 66 of them... aside from that yeah you can get basic foam trays, that can hold 27 infantry for about 10 bucks kinda thing

edit:
so if you wanna drop silly money this is the basic loadout the RJ16 has with their pre built SM loadout.

2x 1.5 inch (38 mm) thick primary tray that will will fit 85x Tactical Marines, 17x larger Space Marine Models and 2x Banner Bearers per tray. There are 85x 1 x 1 1/2 inch (25 x 38 mm) cut outs, 5x 2 x 1 3/4 inch (50 x 44 mm) 10x 2 x 1 1/2 inch (50 x 38 mm) cut outs, 2x 3 1/4 x 1 1/2 inch (82 x 38 mm) cut outs and 2x 2 x 3 inch (51 x 76 mm) cut outs per tray.
1x 2 inch (50 mm) thick primary tray that will fit 12x Bikes, 2x Attack Bikes, 30x Assault Marines and 18x Terminators.
1x 3 inch (76 mm) thick primary tray that will fit 4x Rhinos, 2x Predators, 3x Dreadnoughts, 3x Land Speeders, 2x Vindicators and 1x Storm Talon.
1x 4.5 inch (114 mm) thick secondary tray that will fit 1x Stormraven, 2x Land Raiders, 2x Drop Pods and 1x Dreadnaught.

I played a guy with an Orks army a few months ago who kept the whole thing in a big metal toolbox with drawers. Each drawer had about 1/4" of foam with 40mm size circles cut out for his boyz. Other larger compartments had larger foam for larger models. It was a fairly creative/effective setup.

i keep my bigger models and bosses in a box lined with foam, usually a BW or Dakkajet box as its a good size.

Boyz/bikes....ziplock baggies lol all organized into different color coded squads so i can just dump them out, set them upright, and play. Course i dont just dump the bikes i actually pull them out but theres significantly less of them.
