Hello there, I'm considering making a chaos biker army, probably Nurgle and Khorne but using all the cool fantasy models. I've got ideas to use lords on manticores as daemon princes, varies dragons as heldrakes amongst others.

So, I'm looking to use chaos knights as bikers, but the problem is the tl bolters. I want to keep the theme of a fantasy LOTR type army, so no guns are going to be used, does anyone have any ideas of what else could be used to show they have a ranged weapon?

First idea that came to mind was emulating some sort of chaos psychic power effect, but its Khorne/Nurgle. For Khorne maybe extra weapons they keep on the side/back to throw at the enemy, so axes, spears, javelins.

i'm confused..do you mean have power armoured blokes on the horses? or just use the fantasy miniatures in the future setting?

my first suggestion would be bows/crossbows, or you could convert some kind of old musket/flintlock looking weapons

Yeah, just fantasy miniatures in a future setting. Marines on horses is a little silly IMO...

And yes, crossbows was the best idea I currently have.

Wrist mounted crossbows.
Flintlocks would also be cool if a little out of aesthetic.
Some kind of gauntlet that you say fires bolts or snares etc.

While I have no issue with counts as armies (grot rebellion is one my favorite) however as someone who puts probably an unhealthy amount of work in his armies I really hope you're going to put some real effort into converting & not just use straight fantasy models for the entire army.

I was going to keep the bigger models pretty standard. Getting FW dragons for heldrakes that I'd rather not mess with, and a lord on manticore for daemon prince which may have a little work done to it.

I'm waiting upon the arrival of 7th before anything is set in stone so as of yet I haven't made a decision on troops. I don't usually greenstuff but I'm willing to put a decent amount of work in to make them close to the models they represent.

I have a very similar idea. Using straight up Fantasy models was something I considered. It would work but would also look rather odd depending on the rest of the army imo.

Interested to see how it turns out for you though.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

My girlfriends 40k chaos and daemon army uses a lot of fantasy miniatures. it works fine just need to get the mix right. just throwing some knights in with guns will look just as worded.
good luck look forward to seeing some WIP shots

If all shooting in your army will be similarly represented by fantasy shooting weapons, then a crossbow on each arm would be my suggestion, presuming a single crossbow would count-as a bolter.

Ha! Bolt-er! Get it?

I think you should mount the crossbow to the horse itself like on the breast plate. It is chaos after all.
