I recently bough a few wyverens and want to take the auto cannon turrets and convert them into an Imperial Defense Battery. I am looking to see if anybody has done this previously or knows where i can find the measurements for the base of this so that I can make something of similar scale.

I am also looking to convert up some saber batteries from heavy weapon squad boxes but also need the measurements or something as reference for scale so that I can be close.

There are a lot of people in my meta that play flyer spam and I want to stand a chance to hold the line.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Well as IG we really don't need a huge amount of help with fliers what with our massive amounts of flak missiles. However, I think the wyvern & hydra use the same receiver assembly for their main guns so you'd need to build something for the autocannon barrels & ammo reservoirs to attach to. As for the sabre platforms I couldn't give you an exact but I'd say keep the footprint similar you a 60mm base.

i was planning to use one of my extra defense lines and butcher that to make a housing for the hydra auto cannons. I've got an idea in mind and will post a picture in this thread after the weekend if it turns out. I was just more looking for how far out the legs of this thing is suppose to extend since FW and GW both don't have a model available for this figure anymore.

Yes, I believe making the wyvern option leaves you with just the hydra autocannon barrels and ammo reservoirs - nearly all the other bits, including the gun receivers, are needed for the wyvern turret.

One obvious solution would be to use the hydra gun barrels to beef up the quad gun on the Aegis defence line (that same quad gun was used for many a counts-as hydra conversion before the new kit arrived), but I suspect the hydra barrels will look a bit too big to replace the quad gun barrels.

So another option would be to build an enclosed turret from plasticard, so that only the hydra barrels will poke out?
