So I'm finally painting my Black Templars and these white shoulder pads are giving me all kinds of trouble. I've tried straight white watered down in layers, and grey with white over, but I am not happy with any of my results.

If anyone has any other advice I would greatly appreciate it.

For anything that I can't use my airbrush to paint white, I use this method for painting a cool white (which I prefer over warm white most of the time):

As a base color, I use Vallejo Game Color Wolf Grey, which is a very light bluish grey and even thinned down it offers pretty decent coverage. After that I use a mix of Wolf Grey and white to highlight and then pure white.

Here is a video that shows a similar method:

He also has a video on warm white if you are interested:

And some, I assume, are good people."

Two layers of white. The first layer 9:1 white:black. So first coat is a light light gray. Next is the super white. Might get a little rough texture-wise for painting the "x" if you were planning on free handing it or decals. But. It will get the job done. Gray covers a million times better than white.

I really must say that the blue white gray video is really great. I've done a cool white from base coat white, then watered down blue wash, then highlight up white.

But that video looks great with the steps they used. Might try that next time instead.

Some good ideas here.
I struggle like mad when painting white over black, to the point that I now avoid white and black colour schemes...

Khan, I will try and get some pics up for you of my Templars but I use the following method and it comes out pretty good.

1. Prime black
2. Shadow gray or the Fang
3. PP Frostbite
4. 2-3 thinned coats of Ceramite white

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.
