I'm doing a Cataphractii Terminator with a Combi-Melta right now and I wanted to have a piece of sheet metal on the base that looked like it had been shot with a meltagun. I've tried different drilling and cutting techniques but I can't get a convincing, burned, partially melted, damaged look. Anyone have any tips or tutorials for something along these lines?

Drill a a big enough hole that you can get some pliers in there and start trying to tear and twist? Maybe cut some segments leading out from the hole that you can latch on to and twist.
Alternatively, get a piece of plastic and burn through it. I've done that with a Rhino door for a future project.

Get a sheet of plasticard and melt it with a lighter until you get what you want.

Um, no. Let's not suggest things that can be potentially dangerous...
@ OP: I'd physically twist the piece. If you're using plastic it's very malleable and you can bend it into whatever shape but be careful not to snap it. Then follow some of the tutorials found online, such as this one straight from GW.
Or build it up a little with green stuff or hot glue to get the "molten slag" effect.

There's this fantastic tool called a soldering iron you could try.

I've used soldering irons to get a good melted look. Much less dangerous than open flames, although you do need to do it in a well ventilated area as styrene fumes are pretty nasty.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

This too.
Also a lot safer than a fething cigarette lighter...

Thanks for the ideas, guys. The soldering iron worked really well actually! I'll post a pic when I get the chance.
