Subject: Models that sell well?

Death-Dealing Devastator

I am going to invest in some models to paint and sell on eBay but I have a very important question before doing so. What are some popular models that I could be sure would sell? I am most interested in painting space wolves, space marines, sisters of battle, vehicles, or any detailed individual HQ models. Which models do you think are in the highest demand?

Well, Ultrasmurfs come out as the most popular chapter collected in most surveys, but I would consider Imperial Fists, as they seem popular, and people hate painting yellow, which might make buying them painted more appealing?
Also, with an edition change around the corner, the utility of units may go through a state of flux, so either stick to bread and butter units, or wait for 7th to drop.
I'd also consider doing single minis too, as the investment for you, plus the ultimate asking price will both be lower. You could buy, say, a Space Marine Librarian plastic model, paint it up and ask £40 for it, making a good bit of cash on your investment, but not pricing it outside of the realms of what I would consider sensible cash to spend on one model.
Unless you're very, very good, or very, very quick, you probably can't make an hourly rate sufficient to live off, but I'm sure you can generate enough cash to sustain or supplement your hobby

I was thinking a model like Captain Darnath Lysander would sell well, what you said about the yellow being tough to paint makes sense. Thank you!
I was thinking maybe this guy would sell considering hes a new model

Painting new stuff is always best, and anything 40k pretty much beats out any other game. Paint with the stock-standard color schemes as close to the way GW does them as you can.

The new Shiny is a way to go, but not being acquainted with the new book, I'm unsure if Commisars are in demand for playing, because, personally, that model isn't good enough to want to own for it's looks.
Plus, whatever the model does do in game may be undermined in the new rule edition, hurting it's saleability.
I can see Lysander being a good possibility, any of the SM HQs are probably a good idea, but try and avoid sculpts with a lot of fussy detail, as they'll take longer to paint for no appreciable return in price (unless you start taking commission work, then you can factor it into your quote)

I was thinking of doing the same thing. If you're sticking to marines, named characters are good because they are faster to do than say a 10 man squad, and they appeal to casual players and sometimes competitive players. I would look up the lists from adepticon to get an idea of what is popular. Though I would suggest working on Eldar, Tau, and Daemons as they're are generally regarded as top tier armies.
As for marines color schemes, Ultramarines are popular, but White Scars and Iron Hands have the best chapter tactics so painting in those schemes will net you a higher probability of a sale.

What about battle sisters? I really really like this model and I'm interested in painting one or even a squad

My guess is the SoB players are collecters and painters and true hobbists. HOWEVER, for those that like Sisters and don't paint you could make some bones...

Sisters of Battle are already very pricey, I wouldn't recommend trying to make money off of them.

Glad this thread popped up. I was thinking of painting and selling some space marines I had as well to sustain my hobby. I was thinking possibly blood angels or dark angels would sell quickly. I'm not to sure about BA's though cause I think people only assault squads of them.
If it's not to off topic, could someone tell me if I could ever sell some painted tactical squads and a HQ? Also some space wolves?

Search eBay for competed (and sold) items - only the market can give you the answer as to your product viability with any kind of certainty.

Quoted for truth.
Last time I was wondering about what the paint for the eBay market this is exactly what I did. You should definitely familiarize yourself with the market that you're trying to sell within.

I see, thanks. I decided on an Officio Prefectus Commisar for now. He seems pretty popular.

I would look into BA and Orks. Considering they are up for a new codex and will be the starter set for 7th, they will probably be the most popular.
Also I would look into buying old AOBR models and possibly some DV models and just painting them in BA colors. The models are cheap and easy to assemble and a decent paint job can easily double/triple your investment.
Back during AOBR, I was painting the SM marines in various chapters, typically either BA or UM. I was getting around $80-100 for them as a set, only ran me about $30 in models. Hope this helps. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh...and my painting skills kind of suck :-P I am a wash whore!

Thanks for the tip. I have seen sets of AoBR marines for decent prices before. I have a terminator squad and a dreadnought that are from the AoBR set that I have not painted yet.
