thanks everyone, yes i plan on used Lost and Damned rules using a basic guideline of the following:

D. Prince: Patriarch
Asp Champs: Magus'/Magi
Mutants: Hybrids
Traitors: Militia/PDF/Brood Brothers
Daemonettes/Bloodletters: Genestealers (summoning = bursting from the ground)
Spawn: Impreganted/mutated Ogryns
Hounds: Hormgaunts and/or alien hybrids
Gibbering Hordes: Ripper Swarms
Defiler: RT era robots
Furies: mutated stealers w/ wings or just new strain gaunts.

i wanted that mish mash look but also wanted to have like different colored webbings/ammo pouches as the brood brothers/intiates took ammo and equipment by raiding a PDF armoury.

yeah these are just some test minis the real ones should be converted more or at the very least have more attention picked out. I don't plan to start this project till the 2nd week of May. Only because i have to do many a research paper and if i started a project in between i can kiss my GPA away! lol Though if anyone has any ideas i'm more than willing to hear them out and put them into my design plans.

Im not sure about the rules and all,but you should try to do lighter browns on the skin cause right now its too different to the skin tone itself.It looks mutated,and not in a 'Stealer way.

Maybe you can do something with the skin cultists are often described pale with a little purple shining on their skin.

Why no Broodlord as HQ ? Hybrids with wings gargoyls.

i'm actually not sure how to paint purplish type pink skin? any suggestions?

yeah i plan on getting rid of symbols when i start work on the real models. i admit i was lazy w/ cleaning them up for the test scheme.

To get the purplish skin, try drybrushing on a bit of warlock purple over a fleshtone, and then use a VERY diluted purple ink wash. It's what I do for the "muscles" on my 'nids and it looks very good.

my attempt at pinkish/purple skin, i admit looks a bit TOO purple. Try and focus mainly on skin should i go over it w/ a lighter tone? pink + elf flesh?

Definately too purple...
I'd keep to a more human tone, maybes hitting the the skin with a very watered down mix of flesh ink/purple ink between highlights. Or maybes not even that, just stick with those of the first ones...
I keep going back to the thought of doing a stealer cult, with my old metal guard and misc necromunda models I have (the Delaques seem to be perfect) but I can't decide between that and nurgle...and nurgle seems to call to me again and again...
I may even go with a 3 way force, adding units here and there to make it into different things - adding zombies and marines for a nurgle force, sticking to more human but with stealer mutants for genestealers and adding some commanders and other nice-ness to make them into Neo-Soviets for VOR... Hmm.
Keep up the good work, can't wait to see a finished force!

yeah in this case his plates made him too purple i think, i'm just going to mess around with the skin some more when i get some spare time. These are just test minis (bless my bits box!) so wanted to improve my skin painting skills. About 2 1/2 weeks till i actually begin the project, any other suggestions?

Cool concept work so far. If you want to get pale genestealer-type skin for your brood brothers, reduce the tonal contrast and lighten the colours overall. At the moment, you're using a very dark shade in the recesses and highlighting fairly sharply. Try using a fifty-fifty mix of dwarf flesh and elf flesh for your base coat, then highlighting with elf flesh. This'll give you a nice neutral base; so wait for it to dry and then use a thin blue ink wash, which will give you a subtle sickly purple tone to the skin ? perfect for skulking reprobates and recidivists!

If you want to try some darker-toned skin, use a fifty-fifty mix of dark flesh and desert yellow with a (tiny) touch of red gore as the base; then highlight to a ¼ dark flesh, ¾ desert yellow mix (again, add a touch of red gore to stop it looking dead). Finally, use a thin wash of purple rather than blue ink ? the additional red helps to bump up the colours to stop the flesh looking flat and dead.

For additional detailing, add a touch of moody blue (or the current equivalent) to the mixes for bags under the eyes and thin these mixes further for a simple stubble wash.

Hope those are useful recipes for you ? I look forward to seeing the brood arrive! On the modelling front; I'd try to keep the hybrids looking like hybrids; and not human models with genestealer arms stuck on... It'll be difficult to pull off well, but will really reward you later.

On a final note, unless you're taking these to a tournament, why not just use the broodlord and genestealer rules with the LatD troops? I'd much prefer to play against a simple home-brewed codex like that than have to remember that *these* weird models represent flying hybrids, and *these* genestealers are possessed marines but *these* ones are daemonettes...

+++Edit+++ Cripes! I read over this and realised quite how negative I sounded. Sorry! I really like the look you've got going ? I'd recommend running with the old metal cadians to get a lower tech look to the brood. Good luck, and keep us posted on progress!

P.S. Are you going to sculpt some 80s style godfather bling on your patriarch as a nod to the classic model?

actually your post was quite informative because it gave me the colors and combinations i should use. Yes i plan on using them in any tournies and outside my group so i cannot make a custom codex. I don't plan on mixing demon/stealer types they will be distinctive, if i take daemonette rules all stealers of that type will be daemonettes so on and so forth.

the only marines in the list are Asp champs (representing Magus/leaders) and the D prince (to represent the patriarch) so far. I have to stick with the catachans because of the budget i plan to stick to. That as well as the timetable i plan to have them done by as i want to be able to play in all the summer events of the Medusa Campaign.

The only reason i don't start right away is because being a college student like most everyone both fears and is excited about May... FINALS! well i should say more about a ton of research papers i must wade through. I plan to move this project onto a blog form on a friend's website to track my progress and motivate me more. What did you guys think about the bone colored weapons/webbings?

wow... amazing widgreen. i'm defintely going w/ that skin tone when i get a chance to do up another test. what rules do you use?

thanks cereal. I use the citadel journal rules made for third ed. they are not official but I and none of the people I play care. there are a lot of cool units and modelling options. I use dogs and children and genestealer familiars as troopers with additional handweapons. this allows me to use mixed units in an easy way.

keep the skin tones light and use a tiny amount of purple ink in the shading. so, paint them and higligt as usual then ink em up. use it around the eyes and keep your troopers bald. thats the way I like it anyway.
one more thing I like with the citadel armylist is that it contains all the crappy AV9, fast, trucks. loads of fun..

lol i can imagine, a couple of years back when i saw the journal (or was it the net dex?) posted somewhere on the net i tried to game vs myself using legos. lol well that didn't work out at all (i was confused as to what was what) and ended up scrapping the project.

my funding has arrived so after the 3rd of may expect to see a thread/webpage/blog about my progress. i'll try and post maybe 2 more tests

@widgren: I applaud you, I love stealer cults. I really like the Delaque with the purestrain hands. Question: How did you achieve the blue for your patriarch/stealers etc...

@cerealkiller195: The new stealer kit comes with tonnes of arms you can do up all the stealers and have enough (I'd guesstimate) to do hybrids for a whole box of Cadians/catachans. Go with Cadians IMO the Planetary Defence Force look is more authentic. Also read ?For the Emperor? by Sandy Mitchell lots of inspiration to be found for cults.

the blues are enchanted blue inked down and highlighted. its was a pain in the tail.i´ve only painted four of them because they were soo boring.. i dont like painting blues..
it wasnt difficult, just plain boring.

Well if I had a nice macro camera I'd love too, but alas.

But I will be doing a lot of stealers up and infact the rest of my Tyranids up based on the old school stealer scheme. I'm using Liche Purple highlighted by adding Fortress Grey on the Head, hands and Sub dermis. So far I'm using Regal blue on the Outer dermis (but have had little success highlighting it nicely). With black Armour highlighted with greys.

But when I get a camera I will definitely post some pics up.

I might try highlighting Regal with Enchanted and then wash it down with Midnight blue.

i was wandering around the yahoo group for stealer cults, and i noticed that most hybrids in fact. Look more like actual genestealers than they do than human w/ stealer parts. So that made me reconsider my whole approach on doing them how i originally planned (guard/stealer parts).

Also i can't wait to start testing the different skin methods.
