So I have been following the rumors for 7th edition. But I am worried that I have not seen any major improvements (other than the challenge tweak) for close combat. As that was my biggest complaint of 6th, I am hoping it gets fixed in 7th. Has anyone seen anything hopeful? Thanks.

we can hope for some sort of consolidation after combat, perhaps one that will allow you to move into a new unit(perhaps with overwatch first)

we can also hope for more reliable charge distances

otherwise, overwatch at BS2 is gonna hurt a lot more.

The lack of changes to the mêlée chart made me become anxious. Unless I am missing something, WS is still highly over costed. I want my genestealers to be terrifying again. They have been getting progressively worse since 4th edition.

Honestly, I would have expected any big changes to be in the WD, especially when it's Orks vs Nids. It's really dumb how weak combat is but it doesn't look set to change. Even then, there's honestly a ton to change, from actually getting to combat to everyone ignoring resolution. If they didn't mention completely changing fearless/atsknf/morale after combat, nor consolidating into other combats, it's still going to be worthless frankly.

So new information on Melee changes? Has anyone heard anything concrete? The new edition is a week away?!!

For whatever reason GW keeps trying to ruin Close Combat

Agreed that the high WS models don;t get rewarded anything near to what they should be compared to High BS

All I read is we get a -2" for charging into terrain. So will this still mean we strike at initiative 1? Only one more week or less before someone gets there rule book early.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Rumors seem to be trickling in. Smash is one attack and Challenge wounds spill over. But I have yet to see any hint that lightly armored close combat specialists (wyches, genestealers, ork boys, etc) are worth their points. *sigh*

Well sad News. Here in Germany GW delivered the first BRBs. Overwatch is still the same as in 6th. Snapshots havent changed. No consolidation...

EDIT: Not sure if all of this is correct, but this is what i ve read.

Yeah I have been hearing alot of bad changes about this edition. Jink save cause Snapfire for all weapons, melee gets even less charge range when assaulting into cover, Only 1 smash attack per combat, psykers in the same unit not getting to manifest the same power that another psyker in the group had denied, Warp charges benefiting certain races over other immensely (Chaos Daemons) and just a slew of other things that they added to just destroy some units. Fortunately for me I have enough models that i don't need to go out and buy anymore units to change up my lists but its a shame the GW is making the game so much more complicated and destroying the things we liked about the game in general.

I just cannot understand how GW can not know that close combat is so weaker than shooting in 6th. While I am glad in the general move since 3rd in improving shooting, it frustrates me that many melee specialists are not usable. Banshees? Stopped by cover. Heck their pistols are more dangerous than the power swords.

And the changes could have been simple: charges through cover give a set initiative penalty; assault grenades interfere with overwatch; the Melee to hit chart is expanded to allow both 2+ and 6+ to hit; the list goes on...

"MORE CONVOLUTED" sums up GW's pattern for writing new rules since 4th edition. I don't have high hopes. Every new edition is followed by a louder splutter of rage from us fans than the splutter of rage we collectively released with the last edition.
