Hey guys. I used to play Warhammer 40k about 5 years ago. I stopped due to the fact that no one in my area played.

Now I am living somewhere with a large amount of fellow gamers. My questions is, what army should I choose?

I used to play space marines, but I want to build into something new. My plan is to avoid any Space marine army, so no wolves, blood angels, dark angels, or chaos.

I was thinking I would either play Tau, Eldar/dark Eldar, or necrons. What does everyone think I should play?

Well, the army choice depends on you I guess, are you looking for some uber killer army that wins always? If so I don't think one exists it is just how you play your army in each game IMO. So just go for the army you like the best is what I would do. If it boils down to looks, or kits ,number of infantry or vehicles then just grab the codex of wach and check them out.
7th ed is out at the end of the month so I'm sure it will effect each army somewhat, hopefully not destroying any of them in the process.

I actually chose these off of watching some videos of them, reading each codex (I read every single codex) and based off of looks. These four made the final cut, however, I might go Eldar and Dark eldar and use the ally system. But if the new codexes come out at the end of the month I will probably wait until then. Is a new starter set coming with the new codexes? I really wish they would stop shoving space marines down everyones throats.

Welcome to DakkaDakka well I use Dark Eldar which are weak in fire fights due to armour saves, but if in vehicles, you can zip round the map two times in three turns and shoot out just about everything with poisoned shooting lol

If you like to just stand there and move units like 6 inches per turn and shoot with no worry of losing units.... go Necron lol

Regarding army choice you should go for an army that you like the look of and the fluff. if you like the idea of humans go for imperial guard, if you like big bugs go tyranids.

I collect a henchmen army which is very fun to use.

Well searching online, I found a great steal for a necron force of an HQ, 30 troops, some heavy supports, and fast attacks. ALL FOR FIFTY BUCKS! I just put an offer on this, so i decided to mix it up a little, if I get this deal, i'll play necrons. If I don't, I'll get eldar/dark eldar. LET THE DAKKA BEGIN!
