How's this coming over? It is very rough just to see if my idea on getting a white scheme actually worked or not.

It's intended for future Tau but I've had to test on a SM as I don't have any tau models right now, so use a bit of imagination.

Primed white, ceramite white base, ulthan white layer, nuln oil wash, cleaned up a bit with more ulthan, edged skull white.

I'm thinking done on tau it might be OK just to smash it pure skull white, nuln oil in those nice deep recesses and clean up..
That said I dunno how you'd highlight from that. (this is a bit more grey than I had in mind). Then the scab red for secondary, gold for the little tau symbols. Dark grey for the cloth bits on fire warriors, pure black for the mechanical bits on battle suits.

So... Think this, done neat/properly would work for a white scheme on tau or... Try the pure white idea above?

I think the white transitions look too harsh, white is notoriously hard to paint!
One of the best examples I've seen recently is by finnan and he was very kind to tell me how he acheived it, check it out in this thread

Clean white is a pain, of all colours I find it hardest

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

The shading isn't as neat as I would do on a "proper" model. That was all done quick to see if the idea could work

What I really want is WHITE-white. white as the virgin snow. But then I dunno how you'd highlight that

Without using layer after layer like I so on tanks and shoulder pads.
But that can blot over detail and is slow as you have to wait for layers to dry.

The lines could be a bit cleaner and the transitions are a tad bit rough, but honestly, give yourself a hand. White is arguably the hardest color to paint. And, in all honestly, that surpasses a table top standard.

It's all in the rolls.
