Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Pretty awesome but I would have expected the gun/gem section on the prism to be mugh more... gemy? energetic?

Yes, I'm new to painting gems and such. I went with a realistic looking cut piece as a reference. Thank you though!

Would love a tutorial on how to do that nebula effect!

Seconded on the tutorial request-bedazzle us with your brilliance.

The Prism itself? Stunning. The gems need some work (maybe some hard coat? I can't tell if you've done that from the photo) as, personally, the crystal at the barrel base, but you've blown me out of the water. Think I'll go cry now....

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

I used a real gem as a reference, so vice making it "look shiny" from it being "realistic" I went that route. I used a Gloss Clear Coat on the gems in the end. A better photo would do the model justice. Oh well we use what we can HAHA.

The airburshing looks nice, but honestly the prism cannon looks dreadful.

In comparison to the beautiful chassis, the prism cannon looks like a bunch of Orks looted a rusted out old cannon and attached it to the thing. Don't mean to be harsh, but it really takes away significantly from the impact of your paint job. The Shuriken catapults and the prow item to its left (I have no idea what you call that thing that sticks out on Eldar vehicles lol!) sort of contribute to this issue.

The other thing that is really missing is some kind of paint job on the cockpit canopies. They're just blended in with the rest of your airbrush job. I would rather have them stand-out with a contrasting color, and painted to actually look like a tinted canopy. As is, they just blend in with the hull, and all the detail in them is lost as a result.

The nebula and star effect is kind of cool, and I especially like the planet that you did on the right side. If this were my model, I'd really want the cannon fixed up though. It's mostly because you did such a great job on the hull that the cannon looks so bad.

I am terrible at painting weapons. Especially this being my first attempt at Eldar. Your comments are not harsh at all. I usually paint orks in the first place LOL. Looking at most of the other Eldar Fire Prisims that were painted as a scene of sorts the canopy tops were masked over or blended in to the artwork itself.

Any Ideas on how to fix the cannon?

Actually if you look a bit closer the gun gem looks great. It kind of feels like a piece of amber or something, polished jade almost.

I'm assuming it's done so I won't suggest you go back to it, but if I were capable of such work I would have made the big gem at the base of the cannon a green instead of red, and extended the beige mottled look of the barrel up into it a little bit. I feel like this would have made the cannon look more organic and I think that is what you were going for. The stark red at the base of the gun kind of separates it from the rest of the weapon.

You see some great Eldar stuff on here, and this is a great example. Really great work. Keep it up!

I was deciding between red or blue gems and thought red was more appropriate There is not much I can really do as far as painting goes, it would be painted over the finish and I am not sure how that would turn out. If a lot of worth while ideas begun to show on this subject then I will go back to the drawing board.
Thanks man!

Yeah, no reason to go over it again, it looks great the way it is. More of a personal preference thing, however this would not stop me from buying it, and I'm sure that little tank will go to a good home soon!

Makes me wish I played Eldar... just a bit!

This is something similar that I would have expected on your model

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/3/28/202901_md-Eldar,%20Fire%20Prism,%20Grav%20Tank,%20Warhammer%2040,000.JPG

A black cannon with a bright blue or yellow gem effect, maybe with some lighting effects on the cannon shaft courtesy of your airbrush.

I sympathize with your difficulties. I'm also first and foremost an Ork player. I'm just starting Eldar myself, and just recently completed my first Wave Serpent. I've got a Fire Prism to do eventually, and I'm hoping I can make the cannon come out good.

Personally, I'm going to attempt a cannon similar to THIS... hopefully I can pull it off.

The cannons on both of those are quite better than mine. If I am ever commissioned for a model that is similar I will take greater notice on the weaponry.

Too much of the nebula for my taste and as others have said the gems could use a little bit more love.

It's not bad, and it's really good for first try.

Lesson learned I guess lol. I normally paint large scale space scenes. It was real difficult to do so on a smaller scale.

Bloody brilliant, I would say. That is just a great piece of work. I'd give my right... erm, leg, to paint like that. You should be proud of it!!
