Looking for some tips and advice on how to make Marines look battle tested with some battle torn effects. Ive seen some great effects and it kind of looks like the paint is chipping or bullets chipped away paint and even some fading paint.
Im fairly new to painting, only really painted about 40 models or so and i have SW army that id love to add some of these effects to. Any advice, tips, tricks and examples would be awesome!

Yes, sponge method works really well. I usually paint yellow marines, so I do a dark brown, then I will touch up with bright silver only not as much as the brown.

You can do some washes in the dark areas, I mean a little more than normal, but then be sure you highlight the middle and edge areas again.

Weathering powders are great too. You can apply them after chipping to really give the armor a worn look. I mean everything get dusty and I doubt marines stop fighting to repaint their armor.

I weather all my marines, my older stuff is pretty rough, but as my old orchestra teacher used to say, Practice Makes Better!

There's an article from an old black gobo that detailed how to do various battle damage. I'll see about finding it in the morning.
