So some local Highschoolers are putting together a tournament at the local store, a doubles......
The catch? You randomly get assigned your partner at the beginning. Their rationale(These kids dont know much about things beyond their store) is that you can plan ahead with your partner to make super lists.

I’ve shown up at my FLGS on doubles tournament day and picked up a random partner. It’s not an uncommon occurrence, and I’m not the only one. Now you do face an uphill battle vs. people who tailored their lists together, but it’s not an unsurmountable one.

So yes, random partners is fine. Makes for some fun and interesting games.

I've played in a bunch of team tourney that either have you premade or you just get a random teammate (usually each game).

I'd do it. Mostly because the playerbase seems to be ~80% loyalist, and here I am with CSM and Traitor Guard.

Me Gusta.

Hey, my sisters loved to fight loyalists that aren't as loyal as they should be.

Sure. I reckon random pairings is as good a format as pre-made.

A great way to help bring new players into a game group and what not too

It is rare for a general to be able to pick his allies. I like the idea of getting paired with someone random, and then seeing what kind of force/strategy you can engineer. I've played more than enough Starcraft to know that pre-arranged teams will crush random teams.

Yep i also like the idea... their rationale behind it works as well. aslong its under the understanding that IF come the apoc sides get put together then its ignored for deployment etc etc it would be great.

might even get in a few new players. this is a ++ because those guys that are buddy buddy and may make stupid superlists might make it rougher on the new guys etc etc and you would just push them away. this way, new guy gets put with a guy with a really good list it will be fun for them rather than there being 1 or 2 teams dominating

CSM 20,000 Pts
Daemons 4,000 (ish)
WoC over 10,000
6000+ Pts

Yeah, the "random partners" is less concerning than "local high-schoolers".

I can imagine a random tournament being plenty fun and I agree that it would probably cut down some on the antics.

I'd LOVE it. I wish we had enough consistent players to do that.

I'd be game. We even do these occasionally on pick up days. Good times and doubles seems to take down the intensity and turn up community building.

Random pairing only works well if you re-pair after each round though, to take out the chance that someone gets screwed because his partner has a list so bad its practically harmful.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
