Hi guys,

Unfortunately I came late into the BFG scene. I just got interested in it recently. And since it has become unsupported, I figured I could either buy used models or scratch build mine.

There wasn't much available on ebay for a complete set so I though perhaps ill try scratch building first. I was wondering if anyone has attempted this or has suggestion which bits to try? Just to get some ideas going. I've got a necron army now so I thought a fleet would go nicely with it.

My experience with scratch building is zero. I've only done the minor conversions here and there. So any advice would be appreciated!

Alternatively if you have a fleet you wanna sell, please pm me?

Thanks!

I would usually suggest Armand's 'Cosmic Pharaohs' - https://www.shapeways.com/shops/Armand?s=0§ion=Cosmic+Pharaohs

Though they have disappeared today...

: 1000+
: 1000+
1500+ (they didnt have one for Bretonnians)
Also + BFG Fleets

Necron escorts are all pretty much a crescent moon with some tiny details and pyramids on top. You don't see the bottom of the model, when its in action. Relatively easy to scratch build a few and then reproduce with a simple 1 piece mold.

The Cruiser is all Scythes and stick shapes, again easy to bang out the basic shapes, and then glue lots of little shapes on to give you some details that will hold paint.

The Battelcruiser is a BIG crecent with pyramids on top, again easy to bang out the basic shape, and then glue lots of little shapes on to give you some details that will hold paint.

The Necron Fleet is probably the easiest of all the BFG fleets to scratch build. The shapes simple to reproduce, and you don't need to detail the bottoms at all.

It's a pity the Cosmic Pharoahs are no more. Would have been nice to see it.

I've not really tried moulding before. I'll have to find the relevant bits too. So far all I can think of are tomb blades perhams for tombships. But they are a bit skinnier than the original tombships.

The scythe class ship seems a bit harder.

I think you can buy a bucket of circuit board for not much money and convert it into ships.

Or smash up the old pc you dont use...

Seriously, it's not that hard.

If I can find some free time this weekend I'll scratch build a few just to show how it easy it is.

Necron ships are so 2 dimensional you might as well print the above picture, mount them to something sturdy, glue them to a flight stand, and call it a day

Actually that is an excellent idea! Thanks for the picture. The colours are vibrant enough such that they'll look ok even if just printed out.

How much are you willing to spend? The top of the line option is to make a fleet from Necron flyers and bits, but that could be expensive. If you want to go cheap, you can buy lots of little wooden crescents from Michael's Hobby Supply for cheap, and all you would need is some plasticard and sprue for details. Most of the official BFG minis were clearly detailed with many layers of thin plasticard strips, so as long as you keep the wood grain from showing, the ships should look alright. Alternatively, IMEX makes some Hexagon Platformer kits which come with many flat tiles that can be arranged into interesting flat, angular-croissant shapes with a bit of planning.

Thanks I'll check those out. I'll try it with cardboard and the print out idea. At least skill needed is minimal there. Lol

Scratch buillding is the way to go with a necron fleet! I made some and then cast them up, made from layers of plasticard and greenstuff. Although I haven't figured out the easiest way to do the cruisers yet, all the others are basically half moon shapes as mentioned above.

I based the aesthetics on the necron flyer.
