Hey guys, thinking about getting into Necron. My friend wants to run a proxy game together so he can test out nids, and I can try crons. What do you guys suggest for a 500 point game?

Here is my idea for the list, but I'm not sure what would be good vs Nids.

HQ - Necron overlord with Resurrection orb 120 pts.

Troops
Necron warriors x10

Necron warriors x17 351 pts total.

Fast Attack - Tomb blade with Nebuloscope 25 pts

HQ- Overlord

Troop- x5 warriors
x5 immortals

Heavy- innihilation barge

fast- x1 heavy destroyer
x1 heavy destroyer

thats 430... maybe try adding more troops(Warriors) since its lacking there

I like the destroyers, but I wasn't sure whether the tomb blade would be better vs nids to move around them. The annihilation barge is a bit too much point wise, unless you think it would be highly needed if the nid list had a heavy support? I wanted to focus highly on the troops since I wanted to bring a res orb with the larger unit, but I can make the second unit smaller to fit in another heavy support or fast attack.

Against nids, you need high str shooting to take down MCs. Take the Anni Barge, preferably 2 of them. There is a solid reason why they should be in *every* Cron list - they are impressive units for the points.

Your overlord is toast in that configuration (against just about everyone). Overlords should be equipped with warscythes, weave and Mindshackle scarabs. Against nids, DEFINITELY take them.

Heavy destroyer is going to use too many points and you'll only get one shot. swap for something else, preferably scarabs.

Tomb blades are cheap, and quick and in this case would help as you'll probably get drowned in bodies. Not sure 1 is worth it though.

Remember that Crons do not like CC, so you need to avoid it or have a way of countercharging to get out alive. Having your blob sweeping advanced (taking out your overlord) is not a fun experience.

Fitting it into 500pts is going to be a challenge.

So, to summarise a blob list:

Overlord, Mindshackles, Weave, Orb 150 (left out the warscythe as he won't have vehicles, but WS attacks are AP2 which would be handy)

15 Necron warriors (Overlord here)
5 Necron warriors

Annihilation Barge.
500pts.


However I'd use the following:

Overlord, MSS, SW, Weave
Harbringer of Despair, Nightmare Shroud

5x Warriors (Despairtek)
5x Immortals

AB

The annihilation barge is a staple for sure, the hvy destroyers have preferred enemy which is great considering your mostly wounding on 2+ and 3+ to hit with a reroll on a 1... They always work great for me against wraithlords without fail.

Crons are expensive for 500pts, so dumping so many points in your overlord is silly IMO as you need objective grabbers and for such small troop squads you need them to survive, your overlord isn't going to win the game for ya. MS is good but you proboly want to stay out of cc but would be good backup plan. Let me know how it goes!

Not sure I follow on the overlord. Weave, Warscythe and MSS are 35 points, or 2 warriors. I'd rather have the beefed overlord.

Heavy destroyers are good, but expensive. You can get 2 lanceteks for the same price which give you better survivability (cos you can hide them in squads) and make the squads more suvivable at the same time. So, using them is situational. When I use them I always take 3, because 1 dies frighteningly fast.
