So a spin-off from a thread I was reading in the 40k Discussions prompted this idea in my mind (not that original mind you) and I wanted to get the opinions of the WHFB crowd.

I'd like to know the feasibility of representing WHFB with the LOTR ruleset. I've always heard great things about their rules, and it allows for the opportunity to play a mid-size skirmish game where the models are all unique and useful (as opposed to ranked up and relatively faceless).

Now I realize not everyone will have used the LOTR ruleset, but I'd like any opinions on the matter.

The LOTR ruleset is by and far my favorite. It is my number 1 game but sadly it is losing steam, fast.

As far as using the lotr rules for whfb you would be thinking of mordheim and all of its expansions. Google a website called the mordheimer. Tons of information and resources on there.

I think it's totally feasible as long as you don't expect complete fidelity. There's certainly enough to do decent armies for many factions.
Orcs and Goblins - Orcs and Goblins (though LOTR orcs are worse fighters than WFB ones)
Rohan/Gondor - Bretonians. Empire at a push.
Easterlings - Chaos Warriors
Uruk Hai - Could be chaos warriors?
Dwarves - Dwarves
Angmar can make a stab at "undead"
Khand doesn't fit anything I can think of, though. And you'd be missing factions like:
Lizardmen, Dark Elves, Skaven, Ogre Kingdoms and Tomb Kings as well as Daemons.

It's not a bad idea, though how you'd convert Fight, Defence etc into WHFB terms, or vice versa, fairly, is beyond me. I think you're looking for something along the lines of Regiments of Renown.

Well you can figure out the basic stats of humans, elves, and dwarves in LotR and then add armor.(the book gives the defense bonus for each level of armor)

So a State Trooper with a Halberd would have Light armor, a Halberd(spear or two-handed weapon), and a shield if you bought it(usually 1 point)

A Great Sword would have heavy armor and a two-handed weapon, and maybe a more elite fight value as well.

Orcs would be best represented by Mordor Uruks, Blacks Orks would be Isenguard Uruk-hai.

Gondor soldiers are much better equipped and trained then any of the human nations currently are equipping their basic dudes. Great Sword/Imperial Knight level of training really. Along with archers as good as Warhammer Elves.

Swan Knights of Dol Amroth would be Chaos or Grail Knight level of elite ability. As would Easterling Cataphracts.

Lotr is a great ruleset, and should translate fairly easily to wfb. As mentioned above!, stat and weapon conversion should be easy. The only slight difficulty would be guns, but I'd take the crossbow as a base, maybe add some range.
