You can't use the ally chart as you have to be a different faction to use the ally chart. However, you can take multiple combined arms detachments.

Taking 2 combined arms detachments means you can drop the plain overlord (swap for additional AB).

So you should end up with

Primary,

Overlord
3 Stormteks
4x 5warriors (NS)
3 AB

CAD
Overlord
2 x 10 warriors (GA)
3 AB

In the first games I've played, scarabs proved tremendously useful because they can sit on an objective and are fearless. at only 45 points they are really useful for home objectives or (in Maelstrom missions) for sending after objectives a long way away (with no bound troops near them, obviously).

In the new edition you can ally with yourself.

Thanks, we know that. The point is that the OP was trying to use the Allied Detachment FOC, which you are not allowed to do.

This is actually better for the OP, because now they can drop an overlord (required using the Allied Detachment FOC) and get another AB instead, because a Combined Arms Detachment allows you to take 3 HS.
