Hey so the new FAQs are out www.blacklibrary.com/faqs-and-errata.html and Ahriman has had his Black Staff upgraded to allow him to cast the same Witchfire up to 3 times in the same phase.
Given that Ahriman can now roll on Santic and potentially get Vortex of Doom, it is possible for Ahriman to infiltrate himself forward turn one and unleash three Vortex of Doom on three separate targets.

Now he would be risking several perils given that you would need at least 6WC (x3) to have a fair chance to cast and as he is plainly not a Grey Knight, perils on any doubles. Plus without a Spell Familiar he would also perils on any failed tests however the chance to unleash three strength D AP1, Blasts with the Vortex special rule is quite a bit to pass up.

So what do you think, viable or suicidal?

I think I'd rather cast Psychic Shriek 3x at 1 WC, and the cast other boosting powers like Invis and Shrouding.

Honestly, if I want D weapons there are much easier and safer ways to get them.

True enough. In fairness even Doombolt might be a good choice now that Beams don't appear to lose Strength the more models they hit.

Heh guess I got blinded by the D so to speak.

If he were able to cast it three times in a row instantly, you could ignore the perils. as it is though, he might be dead after the first cast.

No, it's a Witchfire blast.
