Rereading the hard to Hit rules for FMCs (p 69), it seems to indicate that a template or blast shooting attack with Skyfire (p 171) could hit a swooping FMC.

Is this a correct interpretation or am I missing something?

EDIT: I should indicate that zooming fliers have different wording for Hard to Hit (p 84) specifically disallowing this.

Cannot use blast or templates on flying monsterous creatures. Even with sky fire. Just my interpretation I'll go read it again must be missing a linked rule somewhere.

Remember you must roll to hit even using sky fire, and you do not roll a d6 when determining if you hit with blast or template weapons so they are excluded from benefiting from sky fire and cannot hit a swooping monsterous creature, gliding however yes.

Instead of rolling to hit...

The above is in both the Blast and Template rules, because inb order to make a shooting attack you have to roll a d6 to-hit/shot.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

That's the rub. I'm having a hard time finding the statement that you must roll to hit for Hard to Hit on swooping FMCs though it's clearly stated for zooming flyers in their Hard to Hit description.

Ah, I see... I expect the entry will be have "Template and Blast weapons, and any other attacks that don't roll To Hit, cannot hit FMC" added to the entry when they get to the Main Rulebook FAQ.

But as of now, it seems like you can!

Which brings me back to the whole "Are maledictions considered attacks" question again for Powers targeting Flyers...

I don't believe Maledictions are considered attacks. Can compare the wording to the Witchfire description which explicitly states that it is a shooting attack and the description for Malediction which does not further classify a malediction power.

The thing with Skyfire is that it says that you can shoot at Flying targets using your normal BS.

When you shoot a Blast weapon you use your BS for the scatter, so you use your full BS, just like the rule tells you to.

Ya, FMC lack the wording that Flyers have with Hard to Hit. They can indeed by hit by Blasts and Templates. They are generally protected from the stray blast or template since they are resolved as Snap Shots, but against something like a R'varna with a Velocity Tracker it's a sitting duck... or flying duck.

I anticipate they will FAQ this soon, unless they really want to nerf MCs

I just read the three pages that were referenced and while I see where the OP's confusion, I would take it as the RAW vs RAI. If we were playing (and yeah I play 'nids so it would benefit me more than it would anyone else probably), I would insist that swooping FMCs be treated the same as a zooming flyer.
