So currently in 7th edition, what Russ will you most likely field?

Nothing really changed from 6th to 7th except Prescience being harder to spam, so I'll take it that the Punisher took a bit of a beating, but since 6th the LRBT and Demolisher definitely are no longer the top tier due to the beating that ordnance took, something 7th edition did not change.

And since the Astra Militarum / Imperial Guard codex is out and also didnt change anything to the Heavy (former Lumbering Behemoth) rule, we'll have to settle down that THINGS WON'T CHANGE FOR A WHILE.

In light of this, and not counting the Paskisher that obviously is an auto take, if you were to just field Russes, which variant do you think is the best choice?

Personally I would say the Eradicator is the best. It's also the only Russ variant where you can just go crazy on Heavy Bolter sponsons (+ hull mounted HB - or HF if you want to have some kind of counter-assault insurance) plus pintle mounted heavy stubber and everything fits in nicely.

The Eradicator was already fairly costed in the previous codex, but in this one it is ridiculously cheap. No idea why GW decided to be this generous - maybe they intended it for the Exterminator but messed up the names?

In any case, there is nothing sweeter than a S6 AP4 pie plate ignoring cover and wiping out a crapton of entrenched Firewarriors, Eldar Rangers and what have you, followed by HB fire to clean up any stragglers and send them running for the hills.

And being able to move 6" and still fire everything at normal BS is just gravy.

Executioner was already obliterating units in 6th for me and the points drop just makes it that much more appealing. Sure the main cannon can get hot, but so few armies brought things that could hurt an executioner behind a ADL that most didnt try.

Eradicator. I love the LRBT but at minus 30 points, it's now the eradicator that I auto-take. It'll 2+ any infantry, and is just as good as the LRBT except against 3+ guys in the open and light vehicle squads. But that's why I have the demolisher still standing by. I think those two have good synergy now, w/ demolisher insta-killing T5 and 2+ squads.

I used Pask in an executioner with another executioner in his unit recently - managed to take 3 hull points off of my two tanks via Gets Hot! despite the re-rolls with preferred enemy and they killed themselves on the same turn (but did help nuke a 3++ chapter master and his bike unit before blowing themselves up). Yeah it was probably bad luck, but I feel like the executioner is a super risky investment in this edition. If I was facing one without Pask behind the wheel I'd just ignore it and let it melt itself down, especially if it has sponson plasma.

I wish I could love them, but it's hard.

Can someone tell me why they voted for Exterminator?

The Exterminator has sucked ass since 2009 and GW did nothing to improve its stats this time around. At least it did get a 20 point reduction compared to the old dex.

I have no idea. Contrary to popular opinion, the LRBT is superior to the exterminator against everything but T5 units with 4+ armor saves. The LRBT has range, T4 insta kill, ap3, S8 ordnance v vehicles, 2+ everything, etc, etc...when compared against the exterminator.

Yea but at that point the eradicator is better and cheaper. Same sponsons, better turret, fewer points. The problem is that the exterminator doesn't add anything new to an IG force, the rest of the variants bring something unique to the table. Exterminator seems like it's easily out performed by chimeras, heavy weapon teams, or other leman russ variants.

The Exterminator isn't too bad. All of it's guns can snapfire, making it better against fliers and invisible units, as well as being able to shoot while shaken. It is pretty cheap, as well as being able to use sponsons effectively. Personally, I prefer the Vanquisher. However, the Exterminator is better against light vehicles and infantry.
