An Igloo Deep North in Canada, eh?

Simple question really, is the investment in a codex (paper) worth it at this point? I have no idea how old the codex is or where its speculated to be in the update cycle.

Thanks

Both players should be using the least durable units possible, with the house rule that all players remove an article of clothing every time you lose a unit, and take a drink every time you kill one of your opponent's units.
I have no idea which army will be triumphant, but I can assure you that everyone wins.

The Dark Eldar codex is back from 5th edition which is not a bad thing because on the sliding scale, it was at the tail end of the edition. Given that, it is showing its age and probably within 1-2 years will get an update.

If this is an army where you want to toss lots of poison shots out, have glass cannon like transports and ships dependent on tactical positioning and lots of beasts and freaky models, this is an army worth investing in.

It was towards the end of 5th I think. If you can find it cheap off ebay then go for it, but you might be better off waiting. I have no idea how long you'd have to wait though.

If you're really into the darkies, the codex is great, if just for a god read through.
They're a bit hard to learn how to play for some folks, but they're also one of the armies that have the most satisfied fan base.

I started playing them in November. They have a solid codex, no complaints. 7th edition wasn't as kind to it as it was to some armies, but my experiences so far have shown me that it's still got plenty of competitive edge left in it.

I've heard some speculation we might get dark eldar as early as november. still that;s a good 6 months away so proably safe to pick up the codex and build a basic force,

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

It's from the end of 5th, but not far enough that the changes in 6th were planned for like GK and Necrons. To this end, 6th edition nerfed them like a ton of bricks.

There are rumors they will be the 3rd 7th edition codex
