Played my first game of 7th Edition at a local
GW store. Been playing since Rogue Trader. It's garbage.
New objective rules are fething ludicrous. D66ing EVERY PLAYER TURN just to figure out what objectives we're playing to is abysmal. It slows the game down to a crawl, adding about 20 minutes of book checking to the game. Additionally, you can't even play to an objective over the course of the game because your goals change EVERY TURN. Idiotic.
New skimmer rules are problematic for the most broken unit in the game - Wave Serpents. 4+ jink w/ holofields for a 3+ cover save in the open is silly. With the Scatter Lasers twin linking everything, the need to snap fire isn't a big deal.
Vehicle damage table is silly. As it was, mid-strength shooting was overpowered vs. vehicles. Now that you need a 7+ to destroy a vehicle, actually exploding tanks is incredibly rare making high S true antitank weapons more useless than ever. If you ever had a reason to take a Hammerhead vs. a Riptide or Missilesides, it's gone, because it's 10 times easier to just hull point units to death.
Psychic phase is ridiculous. What the hell was wrong with it before? Adding an entire phase to the game for zero net effect on gameplay is the very definition of inefficiency. It's poor game design. I'm convinced that the "Psychic Phase" and "Tactical Objectives" are schemes to hawk more crap to customers. "Hey bro, buy these Tactical Objective cards...they're only $8" "feth you, blackshirt"
New dichotomy between armies that follow the
FOC and armies that don't is just silly. Including Lords of War in regular "battle forged" (or whatever they call them) armies is ridiculous. Players DO NOT want obligatory super heavies. Nobody wants their brand new army they ported over from 6th edition stomped by some
pay-to-win douche bag with a titan. Sorry
GW I'm not paying $600 for a titan to win at a game of toy soldiers. Newsflash
GW: I'm playing with the stuff I had from 3rd edition supplemented with units I've won in tournaments and escalation leagues because I don't want to spend $50 for 10 little plastic men.
Long story short - not buying the 7th edition book.
40k is dildos. Rage-finding a group to play 5th edition until they fix the game.
