Subject: Chariots and no escape

Morphing Obliterator

This came up today at my LGS, from my undesrtanding chariots are transports which often carry a single model and since they are open top I would assume that hitting them with a flamer would trigger the no escape rule, however a friend of mine pointed out that on the chariot section it says to get pool of wounds and then allocate them into either the rider or the chariot but specifies that every hit generated by a blast or template must be allocated unto the chariot.
So... we started arguing about if the extra D6 hits actually went unto the chariot, which later devolved into a discussion that the chariot might not even be a transport since the models inside can't leave the chariot. So I'm here looking for some help with how these two rules interact.

The Chariot is not a transport anymore, the chariot and the rider are one single model.
It has two profiles that are used when it described in the Chariot section. If either die, they both die, and the rider can never disembark.
A lot of the has been discussed in this thread.

How you explain that :
p72
Type
The different types of vehicle are: Chariot, Fast, Flyer, Heavy, Hover, Open-topped,
Skimmer, Tank, Transport, Walker, Super-heavy vehicle, Super-heavy Walker and Sup
heavy Flyer. These types can be combined to define, for example, a Fast Skimmer or an
Open-topped Walker, in which case, the vehicle has all of the rules for all of its types
No escape does D6 hits on people inside (p173)

Explain what? Chariots are not transports (by default).
