Hi all, thought I'd show you my latest build.

It took over my life for a week and a half or so but it's finally done! Hope you like!

I need a rest...

Superb, just love the fact it's not in the garish ultramarine colour scheme! Any chance of sharing the paint scheme as it would be perfect for my greyknights paint scheme

Great stuff, almost looks more like a military vehicle in terms of weathering and realism.

That looks fantastic. Might the best weathered 40k flyer I've seen in a while. My only complaint, is that the ultramarine symbol could probably use a little chipping on the edges.

I like it. Looks like it was the resplendent azure of the Ultramarines but then spent too much time in the sun and faded out.

Good lookin' model >:3

Lovely subtle weathering - maybe a little work on the Ultramarine symbol needed to tone it down a bit? Paint job's really, really nice. Great work on a (imo) horrible model.

Very nicely painted. The blue isn't quite Ultramariney enough for my tastes, but it looks great regardless.

Thanks Brewermike! I wanted something that looked a lot more cinematic and de-saturated than the normal Ultramarines colours that you see.

The base is Vallejo Dark Sea Blue over a black primer. Then I'm gradually highlighting, first with Dark Sea Blue mixed with Vallejo Mediterranean Blue, then with Vallejo UK Azure aded to that mix and then finally a bit of white added to that mix. Then a Gloss coat followed by a wash with Flory Dark Dirt. All the edges and metallic areas got a rub down with some graphite scraped from a pencil to give that nice metallic feel and then I went gently over the edges again with sponged on Vallejo german Cam Black Brown. Then a satin varnish to finish with a bit of gloss for the engines. Phew!

I wish it was as quick to do it as to write it : )

Thanks for all you kind words and feedback! It's good to know I'm roughly on the right track!

I agree with Necroagogo, this isn't a great model, although I have a grudging respect for it now it's finished, it's still way too 'toy-like for my taste.

I know Ultramarines Blue is a thorny subject but I have to say I do prefer a de-saturated colour scheme for pretty much everything and this just suits my aesthetic style.

I have another one to paint up for a client where I might need to do the interior as well which could be interesting. When I have some pics I'll post them up. First I'm going to take a break from Storm Raven's and paint something a bit easier…

…and smaller

Looks really good. From my pov the only thing missing would be some unit numbers on the tail. Minor quibble tho.

I'll take that as a compliment : )

I would like to do a Space Wolves version. My grey would be 'very' grey, without any hint of blue at all. Awesome to weather that kind of mid tone because all of the chips and fading come up really well.

The lack of any other identifiers does actually bother me a bit. Where's a good place for reference if I do another one? I don't like winging these things, as it's nice to honour the source material if possible.

Man, I still really don't like that kit, but you've done a very nice job with it.

A great piece of work!
I really apreciate the minimalistic military feel.
The lack of bling and faded weathered simplicity is done so well it in no way get generic or boring.
Bravo! I dont usually praise the ultramarines.

Thanks Fayric, thats exactly the look I was going for minimalist and military. It was also a challenge to make the Ultramarines look a bit more moody and cinematic : )

My issue is it's too minimalistic, Space Marine vehicles are relics! They're meant to be festooned and jam-packed with honour markings, but it's the buyer's choice :3

It's a fair point. I guess my aesthetic leaning is towards contemporary military, hence the relatively stark appearance. As you say, each to their own : )

I'm definitely also a fan of the utilitarian look. I particularly think it applies on aircraft, where ornamentation could affect performance (though squadron markings etc. wouldn't be out of place).

Also, thanks, re: the blog

With hindsight, I agree with having a few more unit markings. I considered it but realised I didn't have nearly enough knowledge of the source material and chickened out...
